Directions;

  • begin by combining all the ingredients in phase A and mixing in xanthan gum until it dissolves in solution.

  • mix together ingredients in phase B (pumpkin powder won't dissolve fully) then add phase A into phase B

  • combine ingredients in phase C in a separate container and heat phase C and phase A/B in a water bath until everything is melted and both phases are around them same temp.

  • pour phase A/B into phase C and mix with a high sheer mixer

  • meanwhile combine ingredients in phase D, except for the superscents pumpkin. As you mix you will notice the solution will turn into a gel and the sodium carbomer won't fully dissolve, that's okay.

  • Once phase A/B/C is below 122f/50c pour the carbomer mixture in and mix again with an immersion blender. You will notice the solution will start to thicken and gel. Now you can add in the superscents pumpkin and mix again.

  • Let the product sit over night to fully thicken before putting in a jar

PH adjusting - products ph is naturally around 6.43. Carbomer is only active in a ph between 6-7.5 so you have too keep the solution between this ph in order for carbomer to work


Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

xanthan gum soft - thickener

glycerin - humectant that hydrates skin

1,3 propanedial - humectant that hydrates skin

fss pumpkin powder - the fine, orange powder, smells exactly like pumpkin. Pumpkin gently removes dead skin cells and leaves skin smooth and glowing. has a faint scent of pumpkin to it. It is a rich source of gently exfoliating enzymes, antioxidants, beta carotene, and many other vitamins and mineral.

lotionpro 165 - blends oil and water together. is a combination of Glyceryl Stearate and PEG 100 Stearate. Can create light, fluffy and very thin emulsions. Unlike most emulsifiers that can thicken emulsions, lotionpro 165 does not.

dimethicone - a silicone oil of very low viscosity similar to that of cyclomethicone, but without its volatility. It offers water resistance in skin cream formulations, but primarily it adds slip and glide, reducing tackiness, and adding conditioning properties when used in hair and skin care applications.

shea butter - serves as a great moisturizer.

sodium carbomer - is a pre-neutralized synthetic polymer that can be used to thicken, suspend and stabilize cosmetic formulations. Requiring very low concentrations, Carbomers are often used to adjust the viscosity of cosmetic preparations. They dry quickly and are not film forming. Sodium Carbomer does not require the alkaline catalyst that all other Carbomers require. Sodium Carbomer is already neutralized, and in the sodium carbomer form.

superscents pumpkin - will provide a scent and function to your cosmetic application. Pumpkin is packed with vitamins and minerals and soothes and moisturizes the skin. It can also act as an accelerator, helping the skin to absorb nutrients quickly. It can be found in anti‐aging formulas and initiates skin recovery from various types of damage.

liquid germall plus - preservative

Substitutions;

substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions.

  • glycerin - 1,3 propanedial or propylene glycol

  • 1,3 propanedial - glycerin or propylene glycol

  • xanthan gum soft - you can try another gum like agar agar gum but I've never tried it and not to sure how well it will work. I have made this without xanthan gum and it turned out fine. So you can leave out. Highly recommend xanthan gum soft over any other xanthan gums although other xanthan gums will work.

  • fss pumpkin powder - no sub but you can leave out.

  • lotionpro 165 - you can try a different emulsifier like emulsifying wax NF or ritamulse SCG, but the final viscosity and feel of the product will be different.

  • dimethicone - you could use a different silicone, or silicone alternative like luxglide N350 or natrasil, neossance hemisqualane, or even use a plant oil.

  • shea butter - a different butter of choice.

  • liquid germall plus - optiphen plus or another broad spectrum preservative

  • sodium carbomer - any carbomer will work just make sure you adjust the ph to 6-7.5 for carbomer to activate.
