All Natural/ECOCERT Body Lotion Inspired by EOS

Directions;

  1. In a heat safe and sanitized container mix together the phase A ingredients.  

  2. In another sanitized container, mix together the phase B ingredients. 

  3. Slowly pour phase B into A while mixing. The water should thicken into a then gel.

  4. Next, Tare scale and write down how much phase A weighs. (Including the beakers weight too) we are going to heat everything up and some of the water is going to evaporate. We will need to replace that water loss after it’s heated.

  5. In another sanitized heat safe container, Combine all ingredients in phase B. 

  6. Fill a pan with about an inch of water and place it over your stove top on medium heat. (this is called a water bath) 

  7. Cover both phase A/B and phase C with foil and place in the water bath.

  8. Heat until phase C has melted and both phases are around the same temperature. 70°C/158°F 

  9. Now remove phase A/B from heat and place on scale and replace any water that evaporated. Normally it's about 1 gram or less. (The heat from the beaker can mess with the scale, so place a barrier between the two)

  10. Remove phase C from heat and pour phase A/B into phase C. (Pour water phase into oil phase)

  11. Immediately mix with an immersion blender/stick blender. & Let Cool (don’t mix with immersion blender again once it starts to thicken. This can add too much air into the lotion)

  12. Once your lotion has cooled to 104°F / 40°C add in the phase D ingredients and hand mix. (Don’t mix with the immersion blender)

  13. Let sit overnight covered with Plastic Wrap to fully cool before pouring into bottles.

Distilled Water - diluent



Glycerin - humectant to hydrate the skin.


Xanthan Gum  - gelling agent and emulsion stabilizer.


Hemisqualane (INCI: C13-15 Alkane) - Ecocert emollient. Light weight non greasy emollient ester. Derived from fermented sugar cane. 


Montanov 68 MB (INCI; Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside) - ECOCERT/COSMOS compliant all in one emulsifier. 


Cetyl Alcohol - co emulsifier / thickener / emollient (learn more Here)


Sensolene® (INCI: Ethylhexyl Olivate) - Natural alternative to silicones made from olive oil. 


Shea Butter (refined) - emollient / occlusive


Biolatum™ (INCI: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax) - Natural alternative to Petrolatum / petroleum jelly


Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride - occlusive / emollient. Light weight emollient ester. Similar to plant oils, but more light weight. 


Stearic Acid - co emulsifier / thickener / emollient (learn more Here)


Geogard ECT / Preservative Eco (INCI Name: Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Glycerin, Sorbic Acid) - ECOCERT/COSMOS compliant Preservative 


Natural Fragrance Oil - According to BrambleBerry.com “These oils are formulated with natural materials. Individual aromatic components are isolated from a plant, then mixed with other isolates to create a fragrance blend. They're different from essential oils, which use all components of the plant source to create a scent. “


Vitamin E T-50 - antioxidant 



Substitutes;

These are only suggestions. Further testing needs done if you are using any substitutes. Substituting ingredients may result in the need to change the formulating process or recalculate the formula.


Distilled Water - Hydrosol, Floral Water, Essence Water, or Aloe Vera Liquid






Montanov 68 MB (INCI; Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside) - Glyceryl Stearate SE, Ritamulse SCG, Olivem 1000, Emulsifying Wax NF*, Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG 100 Stearate*, or any All-In-One Emulsifier of choice.




Shea Butter (refined) - any butter of choice.


Biolatum™ (INCI: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax) - Petroleum Jelly (INCI: Petrolatum)


Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride - any light weight oil of choice. Squalane,

 C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Coco Caprylate/Caprate would all work great. 



Geogard ECT / Preservative Eco (INCI Name: Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Glycerin, Sorbic Acid) - any water soluble board spectrum preservative of choice. Euxyl K 701, Euxyl k 700 / Preservative K, Euxyl K 703, Euxyl K 900, Euxyl K 903 / Preservative K903
