How to Make Shave Oil - Inspired by Tree Hut (Formula+Blog)
Directions;
In a sanitized container, combine and mix together phase A. Mix well! Set to the side.
In a sanitized heat safe container, add in your distilled water and allantoin. Heat to around 120°F to dissolve allantoin. Mix to help dissolve. I used a Magnetic Stirrer & Hot Plate for this process. Once the allantoin has dissolved, let cool to 100°F and add in the rest of phase B and mix. Set to the side.
In a separate sanitized container, combine all ingredients in phase C and mix well. Set aside.
Slowly pour a little bit of Phase A into Phase B while mixing. This process is easiest with a Magnetic Stirrer or Overhead Stirrer. Let the solution go clear before adding more of the phase A into B. Slowly keep adding phase A into B until all is incorporated and the solution is clear.
Next, while mixing, pour phase C into A/B. (The solution will no longer be clear)
Check and adjust pH to 5.5 (solution should be slightly thickened into a smooth gel. )
Pour into pump bottles. (Simpler 8oz pump bottles I used)

Polysorbate 20 - Solubilizer - nonionic surfactant
Fragrance (Soleil Pineapple Fizz) - fragrance
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride - occlusive / emollient. Light weight emollient ester. Similar to plant oils, but more light weight.
Vitamin E Acetate (INCI: Tocopheryl Acetate) - antioxidant
Distilled Water - diluent
Allantoin - skin protecting / soothing
polyquaternium 7 - film former. Cationic ingredient that conditions skin - (cationic surfactant that can be used with anionic surfactants.)
Shea Butter WS (INCI: PEG-50 Shea Butter) - water soluble shea butter.
Cucumber Extract (Glycerite) ORG (INCI: Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Glycerin, Aqua) - skin emollient and soothing.
Glycerin - humectant to hydrate the skin.
Phenoxyethanol & Ethyhexylglycerin - preservative
Guar Gum, Cationic (INCI: Guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride) - thickener / gelling agent. Also helps condition the skin and is a film former. - (cationic surfactant that can be used with anionic surfactants.)
Substitutes;
These are only suggestions. Further testing needs done if you are using any substitutes. Substituting ingredients may result in the need to change the formulating process or recalculate the formula.
Polysorbate 20 - SYMBIOSOLV CLEAR PLUS aka FSS SuperSolv (inci; (INCI: Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside, Aqua, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Citric Acid, Polyglyceryl-6 Oleate, Sodium Surfactin), BIOSUGA™ MULSE 20 aka Poly Suga®Mulse D9 (INCI: Polyglyceryl-4 Olivate/Polyricinoleate).
Fragrance (Soleil Pineapple Fizz) - any fragrance of choice.
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride - CocoSilk Esters (INCI: Coco-caprylate/caprate), Fision® EcoSil (INCI; Hydrogenated Ethylhexyl Olivate (and) Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables), Sensolene® INCI: Ethylhexyl Olivate, Castor Oil, Clear Jojoba Oil, or any other natural plant oil or emollient of choice
Vitamin E Acetate (INCI: Tocopheryl Acetate) - Rosemary Extract (Glycerite) ORG
Distilled Water - aloe vera liquid or hydrosol
Allantoin - no sub, but you can leave out or use another water soluble soothing ingredient you have.
polyquaternium 7 - film former. Cationic ingredient that conditions skin - Polyquaternium-10
Shea Butter WS (INCI: PEG-50 Shea Butter) - you can leave out and use water or a water soluble extract.
Cucumber Extract (Glycerite) ORG (INCI: Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Glycerin, Aqua) - any plant oil of choice.
Glycerin - Propanediol, Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol
Phenoxyethanol & Ethyhexylglycerin aka Euxyl PE 9010 / Preservative 12- any water soluble board spectrum preservative of choice. Euxyl K 701, Euxyl k 700 / Preservative K, Euxyl K 703, Euxyl K 900, Euxyl K 903 / Preservative K903
Geogard ECT / Preservative Eco / Benzyl Alcohol-SAL
Geogard 221 / Benzylalcohol-DHA
Optiphen Plus / Phenoxyethanol SA / Preservative – Sorbic Acid +2 PF, Opitphen / TRIstat PCG90, Liquid Germall Plus / Germall Plus Powder. Should all work.
Guar Gum, Cationic (INCI: Guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride) - xanthan gum. But it will not add that conditioning slip. So the sharing experience may not be as pleasant
