Cooling Cucumber Body Lotion (Exclusive)

Formula;

phase A

  • 5% glycerin

  • 0.2% xanthan gum soft

  • 67.8% distilled water

  • 5% cucumber hydrosol

phase B

  • 2% sepimax zen

  • 2% cetyl alcohol

  • 10% caprylic capric triglyceride

  • 1.5% menthol crystals

phase C

  • 0.5% liquid germall plus

  • 2% oat extract

  • 2% aloe vera extract

  • 2% bisabolol

Directions;

  • begin by mixing together the xanthan gum and glycerin in phase A and then add in the distilled water and cucumber hydrosol and mix until thickened.

  • combine all ingredients in phase B and mix

  • cover both beakers and place into a water bath.

  • mix phase B every once in a while to help dissolve the menthol crystals.

  • note; the sepimax zen will not dissolve fully until mixed with immersion blender.

  • once the cetyl alcohol is melted in phase B and both phases are around the same temperature you can pour phase A into phase B and mix with immersion blender

  • make sure you mix in all of the sepimax zen.

  • once cooled to under 100°f add in all the ingredients in phase C

  • check ph and adjust to between 4.5 - 5.5

  • pour into desired container. I used a squeeze bottle.

pH adjusting; the natural pH of my product was 5.46 so I did not adjust the pH.

Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

  • glycerin - humectant that hydrates the skin

  • xanthan gum soft - emulsion stabilizer and gelling agent

  • cucumber hydrosol - adds a slight cucumber scent

  • sepimax zen - gelling agent and emulsifiers

  • cetyl alcohol - thickener and opacifier

  • caprylic capric triglyceride - emollient that hydrates the skin

  • menthol crystals - adds the cooling sensation and a minty scent

  • liquid germall plus - preservative

  • oat extract - soothing

  • aloe vera extract - soothing

  • bisabolol - healing and soothing

Substitutions;

substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions. these substitution suggestions are just suggestions and have not been tested to work.

  • glycerin - propanedial, propylene glycol or other humectant

  • xanthan gum soft - you can leave out, product might be a little thinner or you can use a different gum.

  • cucumber hydrosol - leave out and use water instead

  • sepimax zen - no sub

  • cetyl alcohol - cetearyl alcohol, stearic acid or other fatty acid or fatty alcohol

  • caprylic capric triglyceride - a light weight emollient like c12-15 alkyl benzoate or coco caprylate

  • menthol crystals - no sub, without it it's not a cooling lotion

  • liquid germall plus - any broad spectrum preservative.

  • oat extract - any extract you'd like or leave out

  • aloe vera extract - any extract you'd like or leave out

  • bisabolol - no sub, but you can leave out.
