Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

xanthan gum soft - thickener, gelling agent, and suspending agent. Helps suspend the bursting beads through out the formula so they don't settle. Also thickens and gels face wash.

glycerin - humectant that hydrates the skin. also helps hydrate the xanthan gum into the water easier. Usually when xanthan gum comes into contact with water it clumps. If you mix the xanthan gum with the glycerin first it helps prevent clumping.

oat extract - helps restore moisture to skin, soothes skin, and helps reduce irritation.

marshmallow extract - conditioning

bursting beads - bursts when cleanser is massaged into the skin and releases moisturizing vitamin E oil.

liquid germall plus - preservative

foaming apple - is an anionic surfactant derived from amino acids obtained from apple juice. will help gently cleanse the skin. gentle and mild on the skin.

cocamidopropyl betaine - liquid amphoteric surfactant that provides excellent wetting, and gives good lather and foam. gentle and mild on skin.

Substitutions;

substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions. these substitution suggestions are just suggestions and have not been tested to work.

  • xanthan gum soft - try another gum, sepimax zen, or carbomer. Any suspending agent and thickener should work.

  • glycerin - propanedial, propylene glycol

  • oat extract - cucumber extract, chamomile extract or other extract of choice

  • marshmallow extract - any extract of choice

  • bursting beads - no sub

  • liquid germall plus - tristate eco, euxyl k 903, euxyl PE 9010, or any other water soluble broad spectrum preservative

  • foaming apple - you could use just cocamidoproyl betaine or just foaming apple. or try AOS 40 or Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate

  • cocamidopropyl betaine - you could use just cocamidoproyl betaine or just foaming apple. or try lauramidopropyl betaine or other gentle and mild liquid surfactant. I would avoid non ionic surfactants like coco glucoside as this will make your cleanser creamy and not a gel.
