Formula;
phase A
6% SCI powder
30% cocamidopropyl betaine
8% glycerin
1% glyceryl oleate
phase B
52.5% distilled water
phase C
2% plant keratin
2% volumizing complex
1% fragrance
0.5% liquid germall plus
Directions;
combine all ingredients in phase A in a heat safe beaker. Make sure you are wearing a respirator and mix slowly.
weight phase B in a separate heat safe beaker.
place both phase A and B in a water bath and mix phase A as it heats to help dissolve the SCI powder.
once the SCI powder looks dissolved remove both phases from the water bath and pour phase B into phase A and mix.
once cooled to 100°f or lower add in the cool down ingredients.
shampoo with look thick, creamy and not clear. Cover and let sit over night.
the next day the shampoo should look much clearer, may not be completely transparent, might turn back creamy when you mix it, and might be too thick. After it sits for a few days it will become thinner, so you can let it sit for a few more days before bottling up or just bottle it up now.
make sure you check and adjust pH to 4.5 - 5.5

note; if you lower the percentage of cocamidopropyl betaine your shampoo will come out thinner.
Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient
glycerin - humectant that hydrates the skin and hair.
SCI powder - gentle and mild anionic powder surfactant. perfect for making lots of different products. check out past experimenting videos I have done with it.
cocamidopropyl betaine - amphoteric surfactant. This is a co surfactant and helps dissolve the SCI.
glyceryl oleate - a re-fatting agent and can be found in our hair lipids and skin lipids. It can help improve surfactant systems by subsiding the drying effect that can sometimes occur. Makes surfactant systems more soft, conditioning luxurious, and gentle.
plant keratin - plant derived keratin. Keratin is the protein our hair is made of, so it helps strengthen hair.
volumizing complex - helps add volume and bounce to hair
liquid germall plus - preservative
Substitutions;
substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions. these substitution suggestions are just suggestions and have not been tested to work.
glycerin - propylene glycol, propanedial, sodium PCA or other humectant
SCI powder - no sub
cocamidopropyl betaine - any other liquid amphoteric surfactant. E.g. lauramidopropyl betaine, disodium cocoamphodiacetate (never tried these, but I'd imagine they should perform similarly)
glyceryl oleate - this is the only refatting agent I've used, so you can try a different one, but I'm not sure how it will turn out in comparison. E.g FSS Sucrose Cocoate, TEGOSOFT® GC, SurfPro CC-6
plant keratin - vegekeratin
volumizing complex - no sub, but you can leave out and add a extract or another ingredient that suits your hair type.
