In my last post I shared a recipe for a toner formulated for oily/acne prone skin. You can watch the video tutorial HERE. In the post before that I wrote all about what a toner is, what it's used for, what ingredients can be used in toners and each ingredients benefits. So if you want some ideas for ingredients to use in a toner or aren't 100% sure what a toner is used for, then check out that post titled "What is a Toner & Ingredients to Use in Them" or watch the video video HERE

Now it is time to make a toner for dry skin. We will be making 2 ounces Lets begin.
First you need a digital scale that weighs to 0.01 grams and a beaker or heat safe container to weigh your water phase (phase A) Weigh out 30 grams of rose water, 21 grams of distilled water, 3.6 grams of vegetable glycerin, & 1.2 grams of rice protein. Create a water bath by filling a pan with about an inch of water, placing your beaker in the water, covering your beaker with aluminum foil to help lower any evaporation and prevent anything from falling in. Place your pan on a stove top and heat your Phase A to 158 degrees fahrenheit and hold for 20 minutes. Keep track of the temperature by using a temperature gun. I personally like to heat up all my formulations to help sterilize all the ingredients before adding my preservative. It isn't wrong if you choose not to heat this formulation, I just feel more comfortable doing it. Just make sure you replace any water loss from evaporation that may have occurred during heating.
Once phase A has been heated and sterilized let it return to room temperature and weigh out your cool down ingredients (phase B) directly into the same beaker phase A is in. Weigh out 1.8 grams of cucumber extract and 2.4 grams of leucidal sf complete. Mix everything together, pour your toner into a 2 oz bottle and you are done! YAY! We just made a Rose Cucumber Toner!
Water Phase (Phase A)
50% Rose Water - 30 grams
35% Distilled Water - 21 grams
6% Vegetable Glycerin - 3.6
2% Rice Protein - 1.2 grams - can increase moisture retention and creates a more hydrated and elastic surface.
Cool Down Phase (Phase B)
3% Cucumber Extract - 1.8 grams
4% Leucidal SF Complete - 2.4 grams
Lets talk about substitutions. You could substitute rose water with aloe vera juice or any other hydrosol (obviously it wouldn't be a "rose" cucumber toner anymore, but it would still be a toner) You could replace the distilled water with rose water, aloe vera juice, or any other hydrosol. You can replace the rice protein with another hydrolyzed protein or just leave it out. You can replace cucumber extract with another extract. You can even replace the Leucidal SF complete with another broad spectrum preservative (just make sure you follow it's suggested usage rate)
Have any other questions about substitutions just ask :)
