4 Must Have DIY Products under $100
With this list of ingredients I purchased from DauphineOrganics.com
Preservative 221 / Geogard 221 (INCI; Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Aqua)
Montanov 68 MB (INCI; Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside)

You can make a Shampoo, Body Wash, Face Wash, and an amazing moisturizer that I am currently in love with. It makes my face so soft! You can use it on the Body and Face.
All these formulas include natural ingredients and are beginner friendly.
You do not need to worry about adjusting the pH
Feel free to add in any hydrosols, botanical extracts, or other not pH sensitive water soluble ingredints
If you want to add a fragrance oil into the shampoo or body wash, it could change the color and viscosity of your product. (do a test batch)
Formulated w/ Natural Ingredients.
Body Wash Formula
Phase A
58% Distilled Water
5% Glycerin
Phase B
1% Preservative 221 / Geogard 221 (INCI; Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Aqua)
Directions;
In a sanitized heat safe beaker, begin by combining all the ingredients in phase A in order, mixing after the addition of each.
Cover the beaker with aluminum foil or a Watch Glass and place in a water bath. (A water bath is a pan filled with an inch or so of water. Place your pan on your Stove Top on medium heat.)

Heat until the Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate Powder (SCI) is fully dissolved. Mix periodically while heating to help it dissolve.
Once your solution is clear, remove from heat and let cool to 40°C / 104°F then add in the Preservative 221 (phase B) & mix well.
Cover and let sit overnight. The next day your body wash will be clear, thick and ready to pour into your bottle of choice.

Natural pH was 5.37 - check and adjust pH of yours if needed.
DISCLAIMER; The viscosity of your body wash may turn out different from mine, depending on where you purchase your Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate Powder (SCI) & Cocamidopropyl Betaine. If yours turns out too thin, you can use Regular Table Salt (not Himalayan salt, Celtic salt, sea salt, etc.) to thicken.
Dissolve 3% Regular Table Salt in 10% distilled water and add a few drops at a time into your body wash. Mix and let sit for a minute and check the viscosity. Keep adding drops of salt water until you reach your desired viscosity.
Formulated w/ Natural Ingredients.

Benefits / Uses of Ingredients;
Distilled Water - diluent
Glycerin - humectant
Cocamidopropyl Betaine - amphoteric surfactant that helps increase lather and foam and stronger bubbles. This surfactant also reacts to salt, not all surfactants thicken using salt.
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate Powder (SCI) - anionic surfactant that creates lather and foam. This surfactant also reacts to salt, not all surfactants thicken using salt.
Preservative 221 / Geogard 221 (INCI; Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Aqua) - Preservative
Panthenol - aka vitamin B5. Increases shine while hydrating the hair strand to be more elastic, more manageable, and healthier. Also great humectant and vitamin for skincare products.
Substitutes;
Keep in mind that these are just suggestions. Formula may not hold up as well, but may still hold up enough for DIY personal use. Use only cosmetic grade ingredients.
Distilled Water - hydrosol or aloe vera gel (these usually have a lower pH, this can effect the viscosity of the gel.
Glycerin - Propanediol, Propylene Glycol or other humectant of choice
Cocamidopropyl Betaine - try Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Coco Betaine, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate Powder (SCI) - Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), Sodium C-14 C-16 Alpha Olefin Sulfonate (AOS 40), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS)
Preservative 221 - Learn all about preservatives HERE to figure out which would be the right choice for your formula. e.g. Liquid Germall Plus, Euxyl PE 9010, Opiphen Plus, Geogard ECT. Keep in mind changing the preservative could change the clarity of the product. Some preservatives also need mixed with a solubilizer or solvent to mix into water. Make adjustments to the formula if needed to accommodate a different preservative.
Panthenol - no sub.

Moisturizer Formula (can use on face and body)
Phase A
76% Distilled Water
5% Glycerin
Phase B
5% Montanov 68 MB (INCI; Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside)
2% Oliwax LC (INCI; Cetyl Palmitate, Sorbitan Palmitate, Sorbitan Olivate)
Phase C
1% Preservative 221 / Geogard 221 (INCI; Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Aqua)
1% Panthenol
Directions;
In a heat safe and sanitized container mix together the phase A ingredients.
Tare scale and write down how much phase A weighs. (Including the beakers weight too) we are going to heat everything up and some of the water is going to evaporate. We will need to replace that water loss after it’s heated.
Combine all ingredients in phase B in a separate heat safe sanitized container.
Fill a pan with about an inch of water and place it over your stove top on medium heat. (this is called a water bath)
Cover both phase A and phase B with foil and place in the water bath.

Heat until phase B has melted and both phases are around the same temperature 70°C/158°F. Mix periodically to help melt everything
Now remove phase A from heat and place on scale and replace any water that evaporated. Normally it's about 1 gram or less.
Remove phase B from heat and then pour phase A into phase B. (Pour water phase into oil phase)

Immediately mix with an immersion blender/stick blender. & Let Cool (don’t mix with immersion blender again once it starts to thicken. This can add too much air into the lotion)
Once your lotion has cooled to 104°F / 40°C, add in the Phase C ingredients & mix. (Don’t mix with the immersion blender)
Let sit overnight covered with Plastic Wrap to fully cool before adding into jar.
