Mattifying Gel Moisturizer for Oily Skin w/ willow bark extract

Formula;

phase A

phase B

phase C

Directions;

  • combine all ingredients in phase A and mix until all powder has dissolved

  • add all ingredients from phase B into phase A and mix

  • in separate beaker combine ingredients in phase C and mix

  • pour phase A/B into phase C and mix with high sheer (immersion blender)

  • check and adjust ph to 6

  • package in container

ph adjusting; natural ph falls at 6. I recommend a ph no lower then 5.5 as this formula has niacinamide which works best at a ph of 6. Acidic formulations can causes hydrolysis and formation of nicotinic acid (which can be irritating to skin)


Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

aloe vera powder 200x - used to make aloe vera juice. aloe can strengthen, moisturize and soothe skin

niacinamide - can improve the appearance of enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, fine lines, dullness and helps improve the overall appearance of skin.

liquid germall plus - preservative

glycerin - humectant that hydrates skin

1,3 propanedial - humectant that hydrates skin. feels less sticky than glycerin which is why I am using both humectants.

willow bark extract - gently exfoliates skin, en­hances cell turnover, act as a natural anti-microbial agent and is an anti-inflammatory

witch hazel extract - can help treat oily skin, it is an anti-inflammatory, and soothes the skin.

gelmaker NAT - is able to produce cold emulsions. It can emulsify up to 35% oil and makes gels with a smooth, nude skin feel with a non sticky texture.

squalane - is a non-greasy oil soluble emollient that is capable of mixing with sebum present on the skin. This may help reduce the viscosity of sebum to minimize its greasy feel.

vitamin e oil - is an antioxidant that is best known for maintaining skin health.


Substitutions;

substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions.

  • aloe vera powder 200x - aloe vera powder 100x or you can use aloe vera liquid in place of the distilled water. You could also leave out or use a hydrosol or essence water in place of distilled water

  • niacinamide - no sub

  • glycerin - 1,3 propanedial or propylene glycol

  • 1,3 propanedial - glycerin or propylene glycol

  • willow bark extract - fruit acid complex or another gentle exfoliating ingredient

  • witch hazel extract - a different extract of choice

  • gelmaker NAT - gelmaker EMU, gelmaker RHEO, sepimax zen, sepinov EMT 10

  • squalane - a different light oily ester like caprylic/capric triglyceride

  • vitamin e - no sub. you can leave out

  • liquid germall plus - euxyl pe 9010, optiphen plus, or another broad spectrum preservative
