I decided to try making some vegan lip masks and here is how it went....
Experiment #1
Formula;
heated phase
5% polyamide 3
30% versagel
10% lauryl laurate
15% shea butter
17.5% castor oil
cool down phase
batch size 20 grams
heated phase
1 grams polyamide 3
4 grams natural wax jelly
6 grams versagel
2 grams lauryl laurate
3 grams shea butter
3.5 grams castor oil
cool down phase
Directions;
combine all ingredients in phase A and melt using a water bath. may need to mix a bit as it melts. polyamide 3 is stubborn to melt so be patient with it
once melted let cool down while mixing periodically.
once under 100f add in the cool down phase
I also added in a drop of perky pink lip liquid coloring I got from TKB trading
Thoughts; this mask turned out way to thin. Definitely did not feel heavy enough on the lips and just over all was not a fan of it. Looks cute though
Experiment #2
Formula;
heated phase
20% versagel
10% lauryl laurate
15% shea butter
12.5% castor oil
cool down phase
batch size 20 grams
heated phase
6 grams natural wax jelly
6 grams versagel
2 grams lauryl laurate
3 grams shea butter
2.5 grams castor oil
cool down phase
Directions;
combine all ingredients in phase A and melt using a water bath. mix a bit as it melts.
once melted let cool down while mixing periodically.
once under 100f add in the cool down phase
I also added in a drop of some red no. 40 FD&C lake
Thoughts; This mask turned out way to thin. Even thinner than the first one. Was not a fan of this one either. NEXT!....
Experiment #3
Formula;
heated phase
7% polyamide 3
30% versagel
10% lauryl laurate
15% shea butter
13.5% castor oil
cool down phase
batch size 20 grams
heated phase
1.4 grams polyamide 3
0.4 grams sunflower wax
4 grams natural wax jelly
6 grams versagel
2 grams lauryl laurate
3 grams shea butter
2.7 grams castor oil
cool down phase
Directions;
this time I decided to melt the polyamide 3 in a separate container from the rest of the heated phase. This way it's easier to make sure all of the polyamide 3 melts.
once all the other ingredients in the heated phase are melted add a little bit of it into the polyamide 3 to help melt it.
once all of the polyamide 3 melts pour in the rest of the other heated ingredients.
let cool down while mixing periodically.
once under 100f add in the cool down phase
I also added in tickled peach lip liquid coloring from TKB trading
Thoughts; This mask turned out way thicker than the first two. So I was really happy about that. Unfortunately I just didn't like the way it felt on my lips. I tried using it one night, but ended up whipping it off. I do think this formula is worth a try though. Someone else may like it.
Experiment #4
Formula;
heated phase
14% shea butter
20% castor oil
34.5% natural wax jelly
cool down phase
batch size 20 grams
heated phase
1.2 grams sunflower wax
0.6 grams lauryl laurate
2.8 grams shea butter
4 grams castor oil
4 grams caprylic/capric triglyceride
6.9 grams natural wax jelly
cool down phase
Directions;
melt down the heated phase ingredients
once melted remove from water bath.
this formula will start to thicken pretty quickly after it's taken off the heat so start mixing once you take it off the heat.
once under 100f add in the cool down phase
I also added in a drop each of roasted chestnut & perky pink lip liquid coloring
Thoughts; This mask turned perfect! I love it! Definitely recommend trying this one yourself. It felt so thick on my lips and I loved the way it looked.
I definitely want to do more lip mask experiments. Let me know if you wanna see another post like this one. I have some other ingredients in mind that I wanna try using.
