Formula;
phase A
2% kojic acid
69.3% distilled water
phase B
0.2% vitamin E
phase C
20% witch hazel
4% glycerin
0.5% liquid germall plus
Directions;
heat distilled water in phase A to around 100°f. Don't let the water go above 104°f.
Add in the kojic acid and mix until dissolved.
while the kojic acid dissolves combine phase B in a separate beaker and mix.
once the kojic acid in phase A is fully dissolved you can add in the ingredients in phase C and mix.
now pour phase B into phase A/C. Add a little bit of phase B into phase A/C at a time and mix in between. If you make a batch larger than 100 grams you may need to use an immersion blend or an over head mixer to get phase C to mix in fully.
check and balance ph between 4.5-5.5 (Kojic acid is active in ph levels between 4-9)
Natural PH of product - around 4.54 (no ph adjusting needed)
Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient
kojic acid - Promotes skin lightening and helps establishing an even skin tone on all skin types. Minimizes liver spots. Kojic acid has a tendency to oxidize over time which is why I added in vitamin E in this formula. So it is recommended to use vitamin E tocopherol or BHT to reduce oxidation.
vitamin E - antioxidant. Kojic acid has a tendency to oxidize so adding in vitamin E helps reduce oxidation.
poly suga mulse D9 - solubilizes the vitmain E into the formula. Water and oil don't mix. Since vitamin E is oil soluble you need some kind of solubilizer to get the vitamin E to mix into the formula.
witch hazel - helps tone the skin. is astringent and soothing. has tightening effects and balancing properties.
glycerin - humectant that hydrates the skin
turmeric extract - may help keep skin soft and smooth, make skin glow, produce a fairer complexion & remove blemishes such as reduce pigmentation.
liquid germall plus - preservative
Substitutions;
substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions.
kojic acid - no sub
vitamin E - BHT (I've never used this before and I'm not sure where to purchase it, but it is an antioxidant that helps reduce oxidation)
poly suga mulse D9- sunflower solubilizer, tego solve 61, polysorbate 20
witch hazel - can leave out or use witch hazel extract
glycerin - propanedial, propylene glycol or other humectant
turmeric extract - any other extract of choice
liquid germall plus - any other water soluble preservative like optiphen plus or euxyl PE 9010
