Formulating w/ GelMaker Powder - Gel Cleanser, Gel Scrub, & Basic Gel (exclusive)

How to make a basic gel with GelMaker Powder
Formula;
phase A
97.7% distilled water
0.5% liquid germall plus
phase B
0.8% lye solution (10%) learn how to make this here
Directions;
combine the distilled water and liquid germall plus in phase A and mix.
once combined add in the gelmaker powder on top of the solution and let it sit until hydrated. This takes about 10 minutes
once gelmaker powder is hydrated you can give the formula a mix and add in phase B.
mix again and you will notice the formulation thickens and gels almost immediately.
let sit until the next day and pour into desired container.
make sure final ph is between 4.5-5.0
How to make a basic gel with GelMaker Powder
phase A
73.4% distilled water
5% glycerin
0.5% liquid germall plus
phase B
0.8% lye solution (10%) learn how to make this here
phase C
Directions;
combine all ingredients in order in phase A making sure to add in the gelmaker powder last
let the gelmaker powder sit on top of the solution without mixing it in.
let it sit for 10 minutes until the gelmaker powder hydrates in the solution.
once gelmaker powder is hydrated add in phase B and mix.
formulation will almost immediately thicken and gel
once thickened and gelled add in phase C and mix the ingredients in very gently making sure to not cause too much foam.
cover beaker and let sit overnight and bottle up the next day.
make sure ph is 4.5-5.0
Gel Scrub
phase A
49.2% distilled water
30% glycerin
0.5% liquid germall plus
1.5% gelmaker powder
phase B
0.8% lye solution (10%) learn how to make this here
phase C
15% jojoba pearls
Directions;
combine all ingredients in order in phase A making sure to add in the gelmaker powder last
let the gelmaker powder sit on top of the solution without mixing it in.
let it sit for 10 minutes until the gelmaker powder hydrates in the solution.
once gelmaker powder is hydrated add in phase B and mix.
formulation will almost immediately thicken and gel
once thickened and gelled add in phase C and mix
cover beaker and let sit overnight and jar up the next day
make sure ph is 4.5-5.0
Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient
gelmaker powder - thickens/gels products
glycerin - humectant that hydrates the skin
liquid germall plus - preservative
10% lye solution - raises the ph. when you add gelmaker powder into the solution it lowers the ph so you have to raise the ph to 4.5-5.0 in order to activate the gelmaker powder.
marshmallow extract - softens and conditions skin
coconut milk extract - replenishes the moisture in the skin, which leaves it smooth, soft and hydrated.
willow bark extract - slightly exfoliates skin. enhances cell turnover
foaming apple - very mild and gentle anionic surfactant. creates lather and cleans the skin.
cocamidopropyl betaine - gentle and mild amphoteric surfactant. helps lather and cleans the skin.
jojoba pearls - spherically shaped beads consisting of hydrogenated natural jojoba oil, round shape warrants effective but gentle exfoliation
Substitutions;
substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions.
gelmaker powder - no sub
glycerin - propanedial, sodium PCA, propylene glycol or any other humectant
10% lye solution - triethanolamine
marshmallow extract - any extract of choice
coconut milk extract - any extract of choice
willow bark extract - papaya extract or another extract of choice
foaming apple - foaming soy, foaming oats, AOS 40, or any other mild anionic surfactant
cocamidopropyl betaine - caprylyl/capryl Glucoside, coco glucoside, decyl glucoside, lauramidopropyl betaine, or any other mild co surfactant.
jojoba pearls - coffee grounds or any other physical exfoliant that isn't sugar or salt because this product is aqueous and salt or sugar will dissolve overtime and clump up.
