Face Cream w/ Olivem 1000

Updated: May 13, 2022

I've gotten a lot of requests to make more products with olivem 1000. Specifically a moisturizer. This moisturize is a very thick, rich and creamy moisturizer. Feel free to lower the percentage of emulsifier and fatty alcohol to achieve a thinner moisturizer.

Formula;

water phase

oil phase

cool down phase

Directions;

  • weigh out all the ingredients in the water phase and oil phase in two separate beakers.

  • heat both phases using a water bath to 70c/158f and hold for 20 minutes or until everything is melted. I notice when I use glyceryl stearate it takes a long time for it to melt. So it may take longer than 20 minutes and I find best results if you mix it every once in a while, while it's heating up

  • while the water and oil phase are heating up add all the ingredients from the cool down phase (beside vitamin e oil) in a beaker and mix until dl panthenol has dissolved.

  • pour your water phase into the oil phase and mix with a high sheer mixer.

  • once cooled you can add in your cool down ingredients along with the vitamin e oil.

  • mix and once fully returned to room temperature package up your moisturizer

PH adjusting; natural ph fell right around 5.5

Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

  • glycerin - humectant (hydrates the skin)

  • allantoin - has moisturizing, soothing, anti-irritating properties and stimulates healthy, normal tissue formation

  • olivem 1000 - ecocert emulsifier used to help thicken and emulsify oil and water together

  • glyceryl stearate - ecocert emulsifier used to help stabilize emulsion

  • cetyl alcohol - fatty alcohol that serves as a thickener and emollient to moisturize the skin

  • macadamia nut oil - soothing oil that is rich in vitamin A1, B1, B2, niacin and essential elements like iron, such as calcium, magnesium and potassium

  • luxglide N350 - "natural" alternative to dimethicone. used to add slip and glide to moisturizer and to help alleviate any soapy effect that is typically caused by olivem 1000

  • cellynkage - helps repair our natural moisture factor you can read more on cellynkage HERE

  • mushroom extract - has anti-aging benefits, helps firm the skin, & increase cell turnover

  • wheat protein - its anti-irritant and protective properties gives skin a smoother, softer feel. Its film forming benefits help maintain an optimum moisture balance in the skin

  • dl panthenol - has deep penetrating characteristics which provide excellent humectant benefits for restoring and maintaining natural skin moisture

  • distilled water - used in cool down phase to help dissolve the dl panthenol

  • vitamin E oil - an antioxidant and a nutrient that is best known for maintaining skin health. Helps soothe and prevent dryness, itching, flaking, and burning. It also helps promote the look of a youthful, radiant complexion.

  • liquid germall plus - preservative

Substitutions;

(may need to change percentage of the substitutions. substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity and over all end product)

  • glycerin - sodium lactate liquid, sodium PCA, propylene glycol, or 1,3 propanedial

  • allantoin - I don't know of any other ingredients that compare but you can leave out

  • olivem 1000 - any other emulsifier you like; emulsifying wax nf, montanov 68MB, ritamulse SCG, etc.

  • glyceryl stearate - oliwax LC or any other stabilizer. You can add .2% xanthan gum in the water phase as a stabilizer.

  • cetyl alcohol - a different fatty alcohol like cetearyl alcohol or behenyl alcohol

  • macadamia nut oil - a different oil of choice

  • luxglide N350 - dimethicone

  • cellynkage - 72h Moisture

  • mushroom extract - another extract of choice

  • wheat protein - a different protein of choice; baobab protein, rice protein, oat protein etc

  • dl panthenol - you could use a humectant in place of it, but it isn't quite the same as dl panthenol.

  • vitamin e oil - no sub, but you can leave out.

  • liquid germall plus - euxyl pe 9010, optiphen plus, leucidal sf complete, etc. any water soluble broad spectrum preservative that works in this formula

Formula using xanthan gum soft as stabilizer
