Exfoliating Face Wash w/ Fruit Acid Complex

Formula;

phase A

phase B

Directions;

  • begin by combining ingredients in phase A mix until xanthan gum has been hydrated in the glycerin

  • add phase B ingredients into phase A and mix

  • combine phase C ingredients in separate container and mix until combined.

  • pour phase C into phase A/B and mix

  • check ph and adjust to 4 if needed

  • add coloring if desired and package into container

PH adjusting; no ph adjusting needed. Fruit acid complex has always made my formulas have a natural ph of 4.


Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

  • glycerin - hydrates the skin and serves has a solvent for the xanthan gum

  • xanthan gum soft - thickens face wash

  • blueberry essence water - adds a natural blueberry scent to cleanser. This is your traditional fragrance oil scent it smells a lot more natural.

  • fruit acid complex - combination of botanical extracts delivering five natural AHAs to the skin: Lactic Acid (from Bilberry), Glycolic Acid (from Sugar Cane), Citric Acid (from Orange and Lemon), and Malic and Tartaric Acids (from Sugar Maple). These AHAs are commonly used to treat skin conditions such as rough skin, surface wrinkles and fine lines. Recognized for having exfoliating properties, AHAs leave the skin with a smooth and radiant appearance.

  • honeyquat - cationic surfactant that conditions the skin (typically cationic and anionic surfactants can't be paired together, but this cationic ingredients is actually formulated to work with anionic surfactants)

  • liquid germall plus - preservative.

  • coco glucoside - acts as a solubilizer and is a non-ionic surfactant very similar to decly glucoside. it's ultra mild, and one of the most gentle of the cleansing agents, making it ideal for all foaming and cleansing products, especially those designed for fragile or sensitive skin.

  • aloe vera extract - recognized for its wound healing benefits and is often used to sooth irritated skin and burns

  • grapefruit extract - contains Vitamin C & B5, potassium, iron, calcium, folate and is high in antioxidants.

  • plantapon LGC sorb - anionic, mild, green, biodegradable surfactant blend of sodium lauryl glucose carboxylate and lauryl glucoside. has a ph of 5.5 - 6.5


Substitutions;

(may need to change percentages of the substitutions. substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity and over all feel and look of end product)

  • glycerin - propylene glycol or 1,3 propanedial

  • xanthan gum soft - xanthan gum, xanthan gum clear, siligel, guarcat, crothix (if using crothix just add it at the end)

  • distilled water - hydrosol, essence water, floral water aloe vera liquid, etc.

  • blueberry essence - a different essence, hydrosol, distilled water, or aloe liquid etc.

  • fruit acid mix - lactic acid or glycolic acid. (see patreon exclusive, exfoliating face wash with glycolic acid)

  • honeyquat - Poly Suga Quat L-1010P (polyquaternium-78)

  • liquid germall plus - euxyl PE 9010, optiphen plus, etc. any water soluble broad spectrum preservative that works in this formula

  • coco glucoside - decyl glucoside

  • aloe vera extract - aloe vera powder or use a different extract that is soothing like chamomile extract

  • grapefruit extract - a different extract. Green tea extract would be a good choice

  • plantapon LGC sorb - any other anionic surfactant, foaming apple, foaming soy, AOS-40, Plantapon 611L UP, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, you could even use cocamidopropyl betaine, even though it is amphoteric.
