Formula;
water phase
71.5% distilled water
oil phase
cool down phase
5% distilled water
2% dl panthenol
.5% vitamin e oil
.5% sodium carbomer
Directions;
combine all ingredients in the water phase in a beaker.
in a separate beaker combine all ingredients in the oil phase.
heat both phases using a water bath. Heat to 70c and hold for 20 minutes
while both phases are heating measure out the cool down phase.
start with combining the water and dl panthenol and mix until the dl panthenol dissolves.
then add in the rest of the ingredients adding the sodium carbomer last.
mix in the sodium carbomer until the solution becomes a thick gel.
once the water and oil phase are done heater pour the water phase into the oil phase and mix with a high sheer mixer.
as the solution cools come back periodically to mix again.
once it has cooled to 40c you can add in the cool down ingredients and mix with a high sheer mixer again.
package in a jar and now you have a cream gel moisturizer
ph adjusting; natural ph falls around 6.5 you can not lower the ph of the product or it will become too thin.
Note; With most carbomers you have to adjust the ph in order for the solution to gel. With sodium carbomer it is already pre neutralized, so no ph adjusting is needed. Just make sure your solution has a ph around 5.5-6.5 before adding in the sodium carbomer or else it will not gel. You can learn more about sodium carbomer by watching this video HERE or reading THIS BLOG POST.
