This serum can be used on any part of the body but was specifically formulated for the intimate area. This serum is also not vegan as it uses NAG as its brightening ingredient that is derived from shell fish.
Disclaimer - brightening ingredients are NOT bleaching. Brightening products won't make your natural skin lighter it will only lighten spots on the skin that have darkened due to hyperpigmentation. Brightening ingredients are okay to be used on any skin shade.
Formula;
phase A
66.6% distilled water
0.5% allantoin
phase B
4% ritamulse SCG / ecomulse
2% papaya oil
phase C
2% N-Acetyl Glucosamine, NAG
7% distilled water
2% papaya enzyme
2% licorice extract
5% niacinamide
0.2% vitamin E
phase D
8% glycerin
0.2% ULMW hyaluronic acid
0.5% liquid germall plus
Directions;
combine all ingredients in phase A in a heat safe beaker
combine all ingredients in phase B in a heat safe beaker
tare scale and take note of the water phase weight as we will be heating it up and some of the water will evaporate, so that will need replaced once it's done heating
place both phases in a water bath and heat until everything in oil phase has melted and the water phase is around the same temperature. you may need to mix phase A every once in a while to help the allantoin dissolve.
pour phase A into phase B and blend with a high sheer mixer like an immersion blender.
come back and mix periodically until serum starts to thicken.
combine the NAG and distilled water in phase C and mix the two together until the NAG dissolves
then add in the rest of the ingredients in phase C and mix until the niacinamide dissolves. (leave out the vitamin E. This is oil soluble and we will add it into the product at the end)
combine all ingredients in phase D in a separate beaker and mix. (I combined these separately because I've never actually worked with NAG and I didn't want the glycerin to possibly effect the NAG from dissolving.)
once all the powders in phase C are dissolved and the HA is hydrated in the glycerin you can combine the two phases together.
after phase A/B are combined and cooled to 100°f you can pour in phase C/D and mix.
check pH and adjust to 6.
pour into pump bottle or dropper bottle and let sit over night. Product with thicken just a little bit over night
pH adjusting; natural pH was 6.16. So no pH adjusting was needed.
Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient
allantoin - has moisturizing, soothing, anti-irritating properties and stimulates healthy, normal tissue formation
ritamulse SCG / ecomulse - all in one emulsifier. used to blend oil and water together and also thicken product to create a lotion consistency. is an ecocert emulsifier approved for organic formulations.
papaya oil - high in vitamins A, C, & E. helps firm skin remove blemishes and even skin tone.
N-Acetyl Glucosamine, NAG - is considered to be a “skin identical ingredient”, meaning it’s found in our skin in the spaces between the cells, and it is used to maintain skin’s barrier abilities and reduce dryness. Studies have shown that NAG can increase collagen production, increase moisture content of the skin, increase elasticity of the skin, increase exfoliation, and increase the speed of wound healing. NAG has been shown to reduce hyperpigmentation and can be combined with niacinamide to further increase its ability to reduce hyperpigmentation. N-Acetyl Glucosamine is an amino sugar that has skin exfoliating properties similar to alpha and beta hydroxyl acids without the irritation. NAG can normalize the exfoliation of the stratum corneum, so it can be a good replacement for acid based exfoliation ingredients that might annoy sensitive or rosacea prone skin.
papaya enzyme - soothes skin irritants and exfoliates dead skin cells.
licorice extract - has a gentle brightening and soothing action. it helps fade sun damage and hyper-pigmentation safely for all skin tones, while blocking melanin production to prevent more from forming.
niacinamide - very effective skin-restoring ingredient that offers multiple benefits for aging skin. Among these benefits is the ability to visibly improve the appearance of enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, fine lines, dullness, and helps improve the overall appearance of the skin.
vitamin E - an antioxidant and a nutrient that is best known for maintaining skin health. promotes the growth of new skin. By soothing and preventing dryness, itching, flaking, and burning, it promotes the look of a youthful, radiant complexion as well as healthier and more lustrous strands.
glycerin - humectant that hydrates the skin. It is also being used in the cool down phase because hyaluronic acid works best when it is first mixed into a solvent, such as glycerin. This way the hyaluronic acid is dispersed into the formula easier.
ULMW hyaluronic acid - helps plump, hydrate, and make skin more youthful and healthy. HA is the natural gel between skin cells that serves as a water reservoir for the cells. As we age, skin loses hyaluronic acid and the ability to hold sufficient water in this reservoir. Feeding new hyaluronic acid to skin may help hydrate skin's inter-cellular reservoir, raising skin's moisture level, and smoothing down age lines. A low molecular weight hyaluronic acid is able to penetrate the skin deeper than a high molecular weight hyaluronic acid. Also a low molecular weight hyaluronic acid won't thicken water, but a high molecular weight hyaluronic acid with thicken water into a gel.
liquid germall plus - preservative
Substitutions;
substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions. these substitution suggestions are just suggestions and have not been tested to work.
allantoin - no sub, but if you want to add in a soothing ingredient you could do 1-2% cucumber extract in the cool down phase
ritamulse SCG /ecomulse - emulsifying wax NF, BTMS 50, or any other all in one emulsifier. Changing emulsifier will change the viscosity and feel or product. You can not use emulsifying wax NF or BTMS 50 at the same percentage. I would use about 1-2% for your first experiment and work your way up. These emulsifiers thicken much more than ritamulse SCG. So you will need to do some experiments if you are using a different emulsifier.
papaya oil - cucumber seed oil has brightening benefits so I think it would be a good alternative, but you can use any oil you'd like.
N-Acetyl Glucosamine, NAG - alpha arbutin.
papaya enzyme - willowbark extract would be a good alternative since it also has exfoliating benefits, but you can use whatever extract you'd like
licorice extract - any extract you would like, but if it has brightening benefits then that would be the best option.
niacinamide - no sub
vitamin E - no sub, but you can leave out
ULMW hyaluronic acid - if you don't have it you can leave it out or add in a different humectant like DL panthenol which will need to be dissolved unless you have the liquid version of panthenol. You could also use sodium PCA, propanedial or other humectant.
glycerin - propanedial, sodium PCA, propylene glycol or other humectant
liquid germall plus - any water soluble broad spectrum preservative. Tristate ECO, geogard ECT, euxyl K 903, etc. (be aware that euxyl k 903 can not be in a pH over 6, so you will have to make sure the pH is not above 6)
