Pumpkin Jelly Face & Body Scrub Recipe

Formula;

phase A

  • 15% glycerin

  • 2% xanthan gum soft

phase B

  • 20% pumpkin puree

  • 44.4% distilled water

  • 1.6% tristate ECO

phase C

  • 5% cocamidopropyl betaine

  • 10% decyl glucoside

  • 1% bamboo stem powder

Directions;

  • Combine both ingredients in phase A and mix. Set beaker to the side

  • Grab another beaker and combine all ingredients in phase B and mix.

  • Phase phase B into phase A and mix until thickened

  • Add in all ingredients from phase C in phase A/B and mix.

  • check & adjust pH to 4.5 - 5.5

pH adjusting; natural pH was 9.7 and I used 20 drops of a solution of 50% citric acid and 50% distilled water. Got the pH to 5


Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

glycerin - humectant that hydrates the skin

xanthan gum soft - thickener and gelling agent

pumpkin puree - natural enzymes that eliminate dead skin cells to smooth the skins surface. Ideal for natural non-mechanical exfoliation. Has a high content of natural vitamin A, beta carotene and vitamin C

tristate ECO - Ecocert approved prervative

bamboo stem powder - fine powder exfoliant

cocamidopropyl betaine - amphoteric surfactant. creates lather and foam for body wash. Ecocert approved

decyl glucoside - "nonionic surfactant that is very mild and gentle. exhibit mildness traits of nonionics, with the foam of an anionic. It is this unique characteristic that enables it to be utilized as both the primary & co-surfactant in formulations." (according to makeyourown.buzz) Ecocert approved


Substitutions;

substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions. these substitution suggestions are just suggestions and have not been tested to work.

  • glycerin - propanedial or propylene glycol

  • xanthan gum soft - sclerotium gum

  • pumpkin puree - no sub

  • tristate ECO - any water soluble preservative act in a pH between 4.5 - 5.5

  • bamboo stem powder - jojoba castor beads or jojoba pearls

  • cocamidopropyl betaine - any other liquid amphoteric surfactant. E.g. lauramidopropyl betaine, disodium cocoamphodiacetate

  • decyl glucoside - AOS 40 (Sodium AOS-40 C14-16 Liquid Surfactant), DLS (Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate), Foaming apple, or you could just use cocamidopropyl betaine.
