Formula;
Phase A
57.2% Distilled Water
5% Glycerin
0.5% Liquid Germall Plus (INCI: Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate)
1% DL Panthenol
Phase B - Salt Thickening Solution
1% Table Salt
10% Distilled Water
1% Fragrance Oil
Directions;
In a sanitized beaker combine all the ingredients in order making sure to dissolve the DL Panthenol.

For phase B, combine these ingredients in a separate container and mix until the Salt fully dissolves. Then pour into phase A. This will thicken your shampoo. If you do not want to thicken your shampoo or you want to use a different thickener then skip this step. Here is my video that goes into depth on how to thicken body washes with salt. If you change out the surfactants it may not work. Only some surfactants thicken with salt. In this post, I go into detail about which ones do and which doesn’t.

Check pH and adjust between 4-6. The natural pH of mine was 5. So I did not need to adjust the pH.

Pour into desired bottle. I used an 8 oz plastic pump bottle

Surfactants that will not thicken from salt
Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate
Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate
Benefits / Uses of Ingredients;
Distilled Water - diluent
Glycerin - humectant that hydrates the hair
Liquid Germall Plus (INCI: Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate) - broad spectrum preservative
DL Panthenol - aka vitamin B5. Increases shine while hydrating the hair strand to be more elastic, more manageable, and healthier.
Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein - unique hydrating complex offering a combination of moisture-balancing and film-forming properties that work synergistically to give hair better body and control, increased shine and highlights.
Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) - anionic surfactant that creates lather and foam. This surfactant also reacts to salt, not all surfactants thicken using salt.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine - amphoteric surfactant that helps increase lather and foam and stronger bubbles. This surfactant also reacts to salt, not all surfactants thicken using salt.
Violet No. 2 External D&C - dye that tones your hair and counteracts brassiness in blonde hair.
Table Salt - thickener - Click here to read blog all about thickening with salt
Substitutes;
Keep in mind that these are just suggestions. Formula may not hold up as well, but may still hold up enough for DIY personal use. Use only cosmetic grade ingredients.
Distilled Water - hydrosol or aloe vera gel
Glycerin - Propanediol 1,3
Liquid Germall Plus (INCI: Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate) - Learn all about preservatives HERE to figure out which would be the right choice for your formula. e.g. Euxyl PE 9010, Opiphen Plus, Geogard ECT. Keep in mind changing the preservative could change the clarity of the product. Some preservatives also need mixed with a solubilizer of solvent to mix into water. Make adjustments to the formula if needed to accommodate a different preservative.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) - Sodium C-14 C-16 Alpha Olefin Sulfonate (AOS 40), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS), Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI),
Cocamidopropyl Betaine - try Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Coco Betaine, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine
