Halloween Body Wash (ecocert approved formula)

Formula;

phase A

  • 10% glycerin

  • 1.5% euxyl K 903

  • 2% xanthan gum soft

phase B

  • 59.5% distilled water

phase C

  • 15% cocamidopropyl betaine

  • 10% decyl glucoside

  • 1% glyceryl oleate

  • 1% fragrance oil (This is the one I used)

Directions;

  • Combine all ingredients in phase A and mix then pour in phase B and mix until thickened.

  • in a separate container mix together all ingredients in phase C and pour into phase A/B and mix

  • split up the body wash in 3 equal separate sections and dye one green, one purple, and one orange. You can use mica powder or a water soluble dye. If you use mica powder I would make 3 separate batches so you can add the mica powder into phase A. It might be hard to mix in the mica if you add it in at the end. You could also pre mix the mica into a bit of glycerin and that would help mix it in easier.

pH adjusting; natural pH was around 6. Lower pH to be between 4.5 - 5.5

Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

glycerin - humectant that hydrates skin

xanthan gum soft - thickener

euxyl K 903 - ecocert approved preservative

cocamidopropyl betaine - amphoteric surfactant. creates lather and foam for body wash. Ecocert approved

decyl glucoside - "nonionic surfactant that is very mild and gentle. exhibit mildness traits of nonionics, with the foam of an anionic. It is this unique characteristic that enables it to be utilized as both the primary & co-surfactant in formulations." (according to makeyourown.buzz) Ecocert approved

glyceryl oleate - a re-fatting agent and can be found in our hair lipids and skin lipids. It can help improve surfactant systems by subsiding the drying effect that can sometimes occur. Makes surfactant systems more soft, conditioning luxurious, and gentle.

Substitutions;

substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions. these substitution suggestions are just suggestions and have not been tested to work.

glycerin - propanedial, propylene glycol

xanthan gum soft - other xanthan gum, caesalpinia spinosa gum, siligel, sepimax zen, guarcat, . If you use any of these instead you will have to use them at a different percentage. (2% caesalpinia spinosa gum will get you a very similar consistency.)

euxyl K 903 - any water soluble preservative; e.g. liquid germall plus, optiphen plus, euxyl PE 9010, geogard ECT, Tristate Eco, etc.

cocamidopropyl betaine - any other liquid amphoteric surfactant. E.g. lauramidopropyl betaine, disodium cocoamphodiacetate

decyl glucoside - AOS 40 (Sodium AOS-40 C14-16 Liquid Surfactant), DLS (Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate), Foaming apple, or you could just use cocamidopropyl betaine.

glyceryl oleate - you can leave out. just replace the 1% with distilled water.
