Easy Body Yogurt Recipe; Light Weight Lotion for Summer

Formula;

phase A

  • 74.5% distilled water

  • 5% glycerin

phase B

  • 15% caprylic capric triglyceride

  • 2% cetyl alcohol

  • 2% sepimax zen

phase C

  • 0.5% liquid germall plus

  • 1% fragrance oil

Directions;

  • combine all ingredients in phase A and mix.

  • combine all ingredients in phase B in a separate heat safe container and mix.

  • place both phase A & B into a water bath and heat until all ingredients in phase B are melted. (sepimax zen won't dissolve. so don't expect it to)

  • pour phase A into phase B and blend with an immersion blender. (this is when the sepimax zen will dissolve)

  • let cool to 100° f and add in all ingredients in phase C and mix.

  • you can pour into desired container. I used a 4 oz plastic jar, but I think a squeeze bottle would be perfect.

pH adjusting; no pH adjusting is needed. Natural pH was around 4.6

Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

glycerin - humectant that helps hydrate the skin. very inexpensive and commonly used in many skincare products.

caprylic capric triglyceride - light weight, clear, odorless, non-staining and non-greasy liquid oil with an almost indefinite shelf life and is easily absorbed into skin.

cetyl alcohol - fatty alcohol used as an emulsion stabilizer and opacifier. helps thicken lotions and creams and improves texture and feel. is also an emollient that moisturizes the skin.

sepimax zen - a pre-neutralized polymer that can create transparent gels on its own, or can work as as a thickener and stabilizer in emulsions and surfactant systems.

liquid germall plus - easiest preservative to use and the only one I recommend for beginners. You only need 0.5% of it, it's very inexpensive, easy to find and it works well in many types of formulas.

Substitutions;

substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions. these substitution suggestions are just suggestions and have not been tested to work.

  • glycerin - 1,3 propanedial, propylene glycol, sodium PCA or other humectant

  • caprylic capric triglyceride - any oil or emollient ester. (make sure it is a lighter oil and not heavy and greasy. Jojoba oil & meadowfoam seed oil are good options. for emollient esters, coco caprylate, squalane, c12-14 alky benzoate etc.)

  • cetyl alcohol - cetearyl alcohol or behenyl alcohol.

  • sepimax zen - no sub. This is a very unique ingredient since it creates clear gels and emulsifies. I don't know any other ingredient that does this.

  • liquid germall plus - euxyl PE 9010, Euxyl k 903, tristate eco, any water soluble broad spectrum preservative active in a pH of 4.6
