pH adjusting; natural pH was around 9ish. I used a mixture of 50% citric acid and 50% distilled water to lower the pH. I added in 15 drops of the 50/50 citric acid solution and got the pH to around 4.7 You want a pH between 4.5 - 5.5

Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

glycerin - humectant that hydrates skin. used to mix with xanthan gum to prevent clumping.

xanthan gum soft - thickener

optiphen plus - preservative

cocamidopropyl betaine - amphoteric surfactant. creates lather and foam Ecocert approved surfactant

decyl glucoside - "nonionic surfactant that is very mild and gentle. exhibit mildness traits of nonionics, with the foam of an anionic. It is this unique characteristic that enables it to be utilized as both the primary & co-surfactant in formulations." (according to makeyourown.buzz) Ecocert approved surfactant.

Substitutions;

substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions. these substitution suggestions are just suggestions and have not been tested to work.

xanthan gum soft - other xanthan gum, caesalpinia spinosa gum, siligel, sepimax zen, guarcat, . If you use any of these instead you will have to use them at a different percentage. (2% caesalpinia spinosa gum will get you a very similar consistency.)
