Deep Conditioner for bleached damaged hair

Updated: May 13, 2022

I've been wanting to make my own Deep Hair Conditioner for so long and I finally got around to making one. I was really inspired by Kennedi's Essentials Moisturize & Restore Deep Conditioner. It's so lovely, go check it out! What I loved most about this deep conditioner was the smell. It smelled just like Banana's! So I wanted to formulate my own deep conditioner with a banana scent. Here is my formula.

Formula;

water phase

oil phase

cool down phase

Directions;

  • combine all the ingredients in the water phase and oil phase in two separate beakers

  • heat and hold your phases. (this means use a water bath to heat both phases to 70c/158f and hold for 20 minutes. this helps make micelles smaller to create a more stable emulsion)

  • while the two phases are heating, weigh your cool down ingredients in another beaker and mix until dl panthenol has dissolve

  • once the water and oil phase have been heated and held, pour the water phase into the oil phase and mix with an immersion blender

  • once cooled, add in the cool down phase ingredients and mix one last time

  • pour into your container and you are done!

PH adjusting; natural ph fell at 4.55

Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

  • glycerin - hydrates hair strands

  • btms 50 - cationic surfactant. A conditioning agent to help moisturize and detangle hair. It offers improved wet comb and leaves hair with noticeable body and spring.

  • cetyl alcohol - is a thickener that brings slip and glide to our products. It gives a creamy feeling to the product and it’s a great emollient.

  • argan oil - enhances the appearance and texture of skin and hair, hydrating, conditioning, and softening both without leaving a greasy residue

  • baobab oil - moisturizes hair

  • dl panthenol - it’s a film former that increases shine while hydrating the hair strand to be more elastic, more manageable, and healthier. It can thicken the hair shaft, making hair appear thicker.

  • active.lite hair for bleaching - uses cationic polymers, peptides, and powerful moisturizing agents. Protects hair, great for all hair types, provides moisturization, and strengthens hair

  • vegekeratin - is a vegetable alternative to animal keratin. It increases hair strength, enhances elasticity, helps protect hair from harsh salon processes, makes hair look more healthy and shiny, and improves the comb-ability of hair. Our hair is made up of keratin so it is important to incorporate this ingredient in your hair care products to help keep hair healthy and strong.

  • bamboo extract - Has good moisturizing properties and bamboo stems are high in silica deposits which gives smoothness, shininess and strength to hair

  • liquid germall plus - preservative

  • banana flavor - gives the product a yummy scent of banana. Flavor oils are just like fragrance oil except flavor oils are lip safe. So you can add them to whatever product you want.

Substitutions;

(may need to change percentages of the substitutions. substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity and over all feel and look of end product)

  • glycerin - propylene glycol,1,3 propanedial, sodium lactate liquid or another humectant of choice.

  • distilled water - hydrosol, essence water, floral water aloe vera liquid, etc.

  • BTMS 50 - varisoft EQ 65

  • cetyl alcohol - cetearyl alcohol

  • argan oil - a different carrier oil or emollient ester

  • baobab oil - a different carrier oil or emollient ester

  • dl panthenol - no sub, but you can leave out and add in an extra humectant

  • vegekeratin - plant keratin or hydrolyzed keratin

  • active.lite hair for bleaching - this is made up of polyquaternium-80, pea protein and selaginella lepidophylla extract. So you can buy these ingredients separately and use them together. I'm not sure where to buy polyquaternium-80 though. So here is a link to another polyquat that I've used, polyquaternium-78

  • bamboo extract - leave out or use a different extract

  • liquid germall plus - euxyl PE 9010, optiphen plus, etc. any water soluble broad spectrum preservative that works in this formula

  • banana flavor - any other fragrance oil or essential oil
