Brightening Turmeric Body Scrub, Body Butter, & Face Wash Recipe

Turmeric Body Scrub Formula;

phase A

  • 29% turmeric oil

  • 5% sunflower wax

  • 15% shea butter

phase B

  • 0.5% lemon essential oil

  • 0.5% optiphen

  • 50% white granulated sugar

Directions;

  • using a heat safe container. combine all ingredients in phase A

  • place in a water bath and melt ingredients. (may need to mix it here and there to help melt everything)

  • once everything is melted remove from heat.

  • let cool to 140° f and then add in all the ingredients in phase B adding in sugar last.

  • mix until everything is well combine and let cool before pouring into jar

pH adjusting; no pH adjusting needed.

Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

  • turmeric oil - brightens dull skin, fights acne, brightens under eyes, full of antioxidants, anti aging, and can help with hyperpigmentation

  • sunflower wax - adds body and viscosity to scrub

  • shea butter - moisturizes skin

  • lemon essential oil - can help brighten skin and adds a scent of lemon

  • optiphen - preservative

  • white granulated sugar - exfoliant

Substitutions;

substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions. these substitution suggestions are just suggestions and have not been tested to work.

  • turmeric oil - no sub

  • sunflower wax - beeswax, candelilla wax, carnauba wax, BTMS 50, cetyl alcohol, emulsifying wax NF, ritamulse SCG

  • shea butter - mango butter or other soft butter

  • lemon essential oil - can leave out of use lemon fragrance oil

  • optiphen - phenonip or leave out and try not to get water in the products.

  • white granulated sugar - dead sea salt, jojoba pearls, or other exfoliant


Turmeric Body Butter Formula;

phase A

  • 53.5% distilled water

  • 5% glycerin

phase B

  • 10% turmeric oil

  • 10% shea butter

  • 7% mango butter

  • 8% BTMS 50

  • 4% cetyl alcohol

phase C

  • 2% turmeric extract

  • 0.5% liquid germall plus

Directions;

  • combine all ingredients from phase A in a heat safe container

  • combine all ingredients from phase B in a separate heat safe container

  • tare scale and weight phase A and take note of the weight. (We are going to heat up both phases and some of the water in phase A will evaporate. You will need to replace any water loss after it is heated.)

  • place both phase A and B in a water bath and heat until all ingredients in phase B are melted and phase A is around the same temperature as phase B

  • take off heat and pour phase A into phase B and mix with an immersion blender

  • come back and mix periodically until the butter starts too thickened. Once it is thickened only hand mix it.

  • once cooled to 100° f add in all the ingredients from phase C and mix.

  • check pH and adjust to 4.5 - 5.5

pH adjusting; natural pH was 4.57

  • glycerin - humectant that hydrates the skin

  • turmeric oil - brightens dull skin, fights acne, brightens under eyes, full of antioxidants, anti aging, and can help with hyperpigmentation

  • shea butter - moisturizes skin

  • mango butter - moisturizes skin

  • BTMS 50 - blends oil and water together, adds viscosity and conditions the skin

  • cetyl alcohol - stabilizes emulsion, moisturizes skin, and adds viscosity.

  • turmeric extract - help keep the skin soft and smooth, make the skin glow, produce a fairer complexion and remove blemishes such as spots as well as reduce pigmentation

  • liquid germall plus - preservative

Substitutions;

  • glycerin - 1,3 propanedial, proplyene glycolic, sodium PCA or other humectant

  • turmeric oil - no sub

  • shea butter - mango butter or other soft butter

  • mango butter - shea butter or other soft butter

  • BTMS 50 - emulsifying wax NF, ritamulse SCG, polawax, or other all in one emulsifier

  • cetyl alcohol - cetearyl alcohol, stearic acid, or other fatty acid or fatty alcohol

  • turmeric extract - other extract of choice

  • liquid germall plus - any water soluble broad spectrum preservative. Tristate ECO, geogard ECT, euxyl K 903, etc.



Turmeric Face Wash;

phase A

  • 70.5% distilled water

  • 5% glycerin

  • 2% turmeric extract

  • 0.5% liquid germall plus

  • 1.5% sepimax zen

phase B

  • 5% turmeric oil

  • 10% AOS 40

  • 5% cocamidopropyl betaine

  • 0.5% lemon essential oil

Directions;

  • combine and mix all ingredients from phase A besides the sepimax zen

  • pour the sepimax zen on top but don't mix it in

  • cover and let sit overnight

  • the next day you will notice that it has gelled on top, but is still liquidy on the bottom. mix well until everything is combined and gelled.

  • add in all ingredients from phase B and mix well

  • check and adjust pH between 4.5 - 5.5

  • cover and let sit over night again, to let the surfactants settle before bottling up your face wash.

pH adjusting; natural pH was around 6.36. added in 5 drops of my 50/50 citric acid solution and got the pH to 5.09

  • turmeric extract - help keep the skin soft and smooth, make the skin glow, produce a fairer complexion and remove blemishes such as spots as well as reduce pigmentation

  • liquid germall plus - preservative

  • sepimax zen - gelling agent and emulsifier

  • turmeric oil - brightens dull skin, fights acne, brightens under eyes, full of antioxidants, anti aging, and can help with hyperpigmentation

  • AOS 40 - anionic liquid surfactant that offers wonderful foaming and mildness. Is a perfect alternative to sulfates without having to sacrifice lather.

  • cocamidopropyl betaine - liquid amphoteric surfactant that provides excellent wetting, and gives good lather and foam

  • lemon essential oil - is said to help brighten skin and adds a lemon scent

Substitutions;

  • glycerin - 1,3 propanedial, proplyene glycolic, sodium PCA or other humectant

  • turmeric extract - any other extract of choice

  • liquid germall plus - any water soluble broad spectrum preservative. Tristate ECO, geogard ECT, euxyl K 903, etc.

  • sepimax zen - no sub

  • turmeric oil - no sub

  • AOS 40 - any other liquid anionic surfactant. E.g. DLS, foaming apple, foaming soy, ammonium lauryl sulfate, plantapon LGC sorb, plantapon 611L UP

  • cocamidopropyl betaine - any other liquid amphoteric surfactant. E.g. lauramidopropyl betaine, disodium cocoamphodiacetate

  • lemon essential oil - leave out or use a lemon fragrance oil
