In my last post titled "What is a Toner & Ingredients to Use in Them" I wrote all about what a toner is, what it's used for, what ingredients can be used in toners and each ingredients benefits. Or you can watch the video HERE. In this post we will be discussing how to make a toner for oily/acne prone skin. We will be making 2 ounces.

First you need a digital scale that weighs to 0.01 grams and a beaker or heat safe container to weigh your water phase (phase A) Weigh out 18 grams of witch hazel, 18 grams of aloe vera juice, 2.4 grams of vegetable glycerin, & 16.2 grams of distilled water. Create a water bath by filling a pan with about an inch of water, placing your beaker in the water, covering your beaker with aluminum foil to help lower any evaporation and prevent anything from falling in. Place your pan on a stove top and heat your Phase A to 158 degrees fahrenheit and hold for 20 minutes. Keep track of the temperature by using a temperature gun. I personally like to heat up all my formulations to help sterilize all the ingredients before adding my preservative. It isn't wrong if you choose not to heat this formulation, I just feel more comfortable doing it. Just make sure you replace any water loss from evaporation that may have occurred during heating.
Now that phase A has been heated and sterilized let it cool back down to room temperature and weigh out your cool down ingredients (phase B) directly into the same beaker phase A is in. Weigh out 1.8 grams of willow bark extract, 1.2 grams of chamomile extract, & 2.4 grams of leucidal sf complete. Mix everything together, pour your toner into a 2 oz bottle and you are done!
Water Phase (Phase A) 30% Witch Hazel - 18 grams 30% Aloe Vera Juice - 18 grams 4% Vegetable Glycerin - 2.4 grams 27% Distilled Water - 16.2 grams
Cool Down Phase (Phase B) 3% Willow Bark Extract - 1.8 grams 2% Chamomile Extract - 1.2 grams 4% Leucidal SF Complete - 2.4 grams
Few things I want to mention. If you don't want to use distilled water you can replace it with more witch hazel, aloe vera juice or whatever other water based ingredient you want. If you don't have chamomile or willow bark extract they aren't needed, you can leave them out, or you can use another extract. Instead of Leucidal SF complete it can be substituted with another broad spectrum preservative (make sure you follow it's suggested usage rate) You can add hydrolyzed proteins, skip the vegetable glycerin, or change it up however you want. Just make sure you follow each ingredients suggested usage rate. Check out my last post for ingredient suggestions and their benefits.
In my next post we will be making a toner for dry sensitive skin.
