7% glycolic acid toner

Updated: May 13, 2022

Formula;

phase A

phase B

Directions;

  • combine all ingredients in phase A and mix until aloe vera powder dissolves

  • combine both ingredients in phase B and mix. (it may heat up so let it return to room temperature)

  • once phase B returns to room temperature add into phase A and mix

  • check ph and adjust if needed to 4.0-4.5

Note; ph of my recipe came out to 4.06 KEEP IN MIND! If you change anything in this formula or use a different glycolic acid than the one I used you may need a different amount of ph buffer so I recommend doing a test recipe first so you can figure out the percentage of ph buffer that is required before making a large batch.

ph buffer formula

directions;

  • weigh out the distilled water in a glass container

  • weigh out the sodium hydroxide in another container

  • pour the sodium hydroxide into the water DO NOT DO IT THE OTHER WAY AROUND

  • mix

  • you will notice it will turn foggy and the water will heat up and maybe even sizzle, this is normal. Let it sit until water runs clear and returns to room temperature

important note; wear protective clothing like long sleeves, goggles, and gloves when working with sodium hydroxide. Also work in a well ventilated room or outside.

Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

witch hazel hydrosol - helps tone the skin. is astringent and soothing. has tightening effects and balancing properties.

chamomile extract - has anti-inflammatory properties and helps soothe skin from irritation

henna extract - has cooling and soothing properties. It also provides anti-microbial an oil absorbing properties which makes it perfect for oily acne prone skin.

aloe vera powder 200x - soothing, adds moisture, helps acne, and wrinkles

liquid germall plus - preservative

glycolic acid - it will slough off dead skin cells revealing smoother, softer, & brighter skin. helps with acne, dark spots, wrinkles, and much more

ph buffer (sodium hydroxide) - used to raise ph of product as glycolic acid has an extremely low ph that is not good for the skin. So this is used to raise the ph to make the product safe to use on the skin.
