I'm back again with another face wash recipe. I know I do a lot of these, but there are just endless possibilities when it comes to formulating face washes and honestly they are one of my favorite products to make! So this Rosemary Coconut Face wash is full of anti aging benefits. It's rich in calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, and vitamin B1, vitamin B3 and vitamin C. This face wash also contains anti irritant properties and of course is moisturizing!

Formula & Substitutions;
heated phase A
41% distilled water - (substitute w/ aloe vera liquid, rose water, lavender water, or another hydrosol)
10% coconut water - (substitute w/ coconut extract in cool down phase) I don't recommend using coconut water you buy from the grocery store since it's technically not a cosmetic approved ingredient. So to be safe use cosmetic approved coconut water. I worry if you use coconut water from the grocery store it may spoil your product)
10% almond oil - (substitute w/ any carrier oil of choice, fractionated coconut oil would be a good choice)
5% vegetable glycerin - (substitute w/ 1,3 propanedial, honeyquat, Sodium lactate, butylene glycol, or propylene glycol)
2% hydrolyzed oat protein - (substitute w/ a different protein, like wheat protein, baobab protein, rice protein, silk protein)
phase B
1% siligel - (substitute w/ 2% crothix, don't use xanthan gum if using crothix)
.5% xanthan gum
you could use 2% siligel and no xanthan gum, or use 1.5% xanthan gum and no siligel
surfactant phase
10% coco betaine (cocamidopropyl betaine) - (substitute w/ gentle foam, foaming soy, foaming apple, decyl glucoside, or another foaming surfactant of choice)
10% coco glucoside (substitute w/ a different foaming surfactant of choice)
(there are many different foaming surfactants and it really just comes down to which ones your prefer. be sure to keep their ph level in mind. some surfactants have a lower ph and some are higher so you may have to balance your products ph depending on what surfactant you use)
cool down phase
5% rosemary extract - (can't substitute because without it, it's not a ROSEMARY coconut face wash.)
5% ginseng extract - (substitute w/ whatever extract you like and has benefits you are looking for. some good ones with anti aging benefits are mushroom, dragonfruit, grapefruit, calendula, green tea, ginger root, cherry blossom, carrot resin, the possibilities are endless!)
.5% liquid germall plus - (substitute w/ leucidal sf complete, optiphen plus or another water soluble broad spectrum preservative)
Directions;
Combine all your ingredients from phase A in a heat safe container. I like to use these glass beakers HERE.
Heat phase A to about 100 degrees fahrenheit or higher using a water bath. We are heating phase A in order to dissolve out ingredients in phase B
Once phase A is heated weigh ingredients in phase B and pour into phase A. Mix with an immersion blender until all the powder has dissolved.
Next weight out the ingredients from the surfactant phase into your formula and mix in gently. (Do NOT mix with an immersion blender it will create way to much later)
Let your formula return to room temperature
Add in ingredients from the cool down phase and gently mix into your formula.
Pour your finished face wash into a bottle and finish it off with a label.
Benefits of each ingredient;
coconut water - full of essential amino acids while also containing enzymes, antioxidants and phytonutrients.
almond oil - moisturizes skin and soothes irritation
vegetable glycerin - hydrates and locks in moisture
hydrolyzed oat protein - will impart a soft, cushiony feel on the skin, drying to a velvety smoothness on the skin. Studies have shown that hydrolyzed oats retain significantly more moisture at all humidities, gaining up to 50% more moisture at relative low humidity when added moisture is most needed.
siligel & xanthan gum - thickens formulation and the siligel also works as an emulsifier.
coco betaine (cocamidopropyl betaine) - adds cleansing and foaming properties
coco glucoside - adds cleansing and foaming properties. also helps emulsify the oil into the water
rosemary extract - rich in calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, and vitamin B1, vitamin B3 and vitamin C. Has purifying and anti-irritant properties
ginseng extract - can help reduce fine lines and make the skin firmer
liquid germall plus - preserve's product
