Formula - 600 gram Batch
Phase A
20% Kokum Butter - 120 grams
30% Shea Butter - 180 grams
Phase B
33% Caprylic Capric Triglyceride - 198 grams
Phase C
10% Rosehip Seed Oil - 60 grams
1% Hello Sugar Fragrance Oil - 6 grams
1% Vitamin E - 6 grams
5% Arrowroot Powder - 30 grams
Directions;
Combine phase A. Place in a water bath to melt.
Once melted, pour in phase B.
Place in freezer to harden.
As soon as there is a thin hard layer on top and around the edges you can remove from freezer and start whipping.
At this time you can add in your phase C ingredients and continue whipping.
If you have a stand mixer this works best. Otherwise you will need to keep mixing until it starts to fluff.
It will start to fluff when it isn't too soft, but also you don't want it too hard to where you can't whip it. You need to wait until it gets to that perfect medium and that is when it will start to fluff up.
Once it is nice and fluffy divide into multiple different containers.
I used mica powder from madmica.com to color one Pink, Blue, Purple. Yellow, and Green.
I then laid each color of body butter out onto a piece of press n seal and rolled up together and placed in my piping bag. (See video for demo)
This body but was really hard to pipe and I think I needed to whip it more in order for it to be easier to pipe. Also, if this butter is too soft then you can add in a hardener like stearic acid, cetyl alcohol, or maybe try using more kokum butter than shea butter. If this butter is too hard then use less kokum butter and more shea butter or caprylic capric triglyceride.
Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient
Kokum Butter - moisturizes skin. Is one of the hardest butters and helps keep the butters structure and keep it from melting a bit more compared to using just shea butter. (but it will still melt)
Shea Butter - moisturizes skin. Is one of the softest butters.
Caprylic Capric Triglyceride - a light weight emollient ester. Similar to carrier oils, but is far less greasy and is much more light weight on the skin. It is clear has no scent and moisturizes the skin.
Rosehip Seed Oil - A natural form of vitamin A is found in rosehip seed oil. This is one of my all time favorite oils. I love that it is light weight and great for all skin types.
Hello Sugar Fragrance Oil - scent
Vitamin E - antioxidant. helps keep oils from going rancid and smelling weird
Arrowroot Powder - helps reduce greasiness of body butter
Substitutions;
substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity, and overall effect of final product. percentages and formulating procedure may need to change with substitutions. these substitution suggestions are just suggestions and have not been tested to work.
Kokum Butter - any harder butter of choice like cocoa butter
Shea Butter - any soft butter of choice like mango butter
Caprylic Capric Triglyceride - any oil of choice or any other emollient ester blend of choice. I don't recommend using too much carrier oil here as it may make the butter feel too heavy and greasy.
Rosehip Seed Oil - Any other carrier oil of choice.
Vitamin E - no sub
