I am obsessed with this face wash! I have made many face washes on my channel/patreon, but I have to say, this one is by far one of my favorites!
I also think this face wash is perfect for the summer since it smells of Strawberry and Lemon! Nothing gets more summer than that, well except for beaches, tan lines, and picnics! lol
Anyways, lets discuss where the Strawberry and Lemon scent comes from in this face wash. The key ingredients here are Strawberry Fruit Essence & Lemon Hydrosol. The other key ingredient in this face wash is Sepimax Zen. You may remember this ingredient from the experimenting video I did a few weeks ago. Basically if you want the same jelly, milky like consistency that this face wash has you need to use sepimax zen. I like to compare this face wash to a milk cleanser because of the texture and consistency. Obviously you can still make this face wash with out the sepimax zen, it will just feel different, but the reason I am obsessed with this face wash is because of the way the sepimax zen makes it feel on the skin.
Formula;
heated phase A
10% lemon hydrosol
15.5% distilled water
10% almond oil - (substitute w/ any carrier oil of choice)
4% vegetable glycerin - (substitute w/ 1,3 propanedial, Sodium lactate, butylene glycol, or propylene glycol)
4% 1,3 propanedial - (substitute w/ vegetable glycerin, Sodium lactate, butylene glycol, or propylene glycol)
2% dl panthenol - (nothing that I know of really compares to panthenol but you could substitute w/ another humectant like vegetable glycerin, honeyquat, Sodium lactate, butylene glycol, propylene glycol, or a hydrolyzed protein like wheat protein, baobab protein, rice protein, silk protein, oat protein)
cool down phase
.5% liquid germall plus - (substitute w/ leucidal sf complete, optiphen plus or another water soluble broad spectrum preservative)
2% hydrolyzed rice protein - (substitute w/ a different protein, like wheat protein, baobab protein, oat protein, silk protein)
sepimax zen phase
2% sepimax zen - (substitute w/ siligel, xanthan gum, or crothix) Please keep in mind your face wash will NOT have the same consistency if you don't use sepimax zen. Also if you choose to use any of the substitutions you may need to add it during a different phase. For example; siligel and xanthan gum should be added while the formulation is still hot and mixed with an immersion blender. Crothix should be added when the formulation has completely cooled.
surfactant phase
15% foaming apple - (substitute w/ cocamidopropyl betaine, foaming soy, or another foaming surfactant of choice)
5% coco glucoside - (substitute w/ decyl glucoside)
Directions;
combine all ingredients in heated phase A in a heat safe container.
heat phase A using a water bath to dissolve the dl panthenol.
once dl panthenol is dissolved & formulation has cooled add in the ingredients in the cool down phase & mix.
now we are on the sepimax zen phase. sprinkle the sepimax zen powder on top of your formulation and DO NOT MIX!!!
cover your formulation and let it sit for at least 8 hours. (I let mine sit over night)
after 8 hours you will notice the formulation looks chunky and the oil has separated to the top, that's fine, just give it a good mix!
now add in your surfactant phase and gently mix
cover up your formulation and let it sit over night, again.
then the next day you will notice the formulation has completely hydrated and all the ingredients are nicely combined and the formulation has become a jelly/milky consistency with not chunks.
pour your face wash in a bottle and you're done!! :)
Benefits of each ingredient;
strawberry essence water - adds a lovely fragrance of strawberries to your product naturally. no fragrance oils used here.
lemon hydrosol - is best suited for oily skin
almond oil - helps moisturize the skin
1,3 propanedial - moisturizes the skin and helps alleviate the greasiness some may find that glycerin causes
dl panthenol - has an anti-inflammatory effect. has the potential to improve the appearance of the skin, including dryness, roughness, scaling, pruritus and erythema. and its moisturizing properties improve stratum corneum hydration, reducing transepidermal water loss and maintains skin elasticity and softness.
vegetable glycerin - hydrates and locks in moisture
hydrolyzed rice protein - increase’s moisture retention creates a more hydrated and elastic surface. an effective anti-irritant and leaves a smooth, dry feel on the skin.
sepimax zen - thickener and it produces products with an elegant skin feel and velvety touch
liquid germall plus - preserve's product
foaming apple - is an anionic surfactant derived from amino acids obtained from apple juice. will help gently cleanse the skin.
coco glucoside - acts as our emulsifier and is a natural, non-ionic, surfactant very similar to decly glucoside. it's ultra mild, and one of the most gentle of the cleansing agents, making it ideal for all foaming and cleansing products, especially those designed for fragile or sensitive skin.
