How to make Retinol Hand/Body Cream

Updated: May 13, 2022

If you didn't know, I'm 25, and it's prime time to start focusing on using anti aging products. Most people focus on using anti aging products on their face, but it's just as important to use them on your body. Especially your hands, and chest but it's smart to use anti aging products everywhere, because why not? So I decide to make myself a retinol hand / body cream. (initially, I went into this wanting to make a hand cream, but you can literally use it all over the body, and I highly recommend to, because it feels SO GOOD!)

Formulation;

water phase

oil phase

cool down phase

Directions;

  • begin by weighing the water phase ingredients and oil phase ingredients in two separate beakers

  • place both beakers in a water bath and heat both phases to 158 degrees fahrenheit and hold for 20 minutes

  • next pour the water phase into the oil phase and mix immediately with a high sheer mixer

  • come back and mix periodically as it cools

  • once your formulation has cooled to or below 84 degrees fahrenheit you can add in your cool down ingredients.

  • give your formulation one last good mix and pour into your desired container. I used a glass jar that way it is easier to scoop out all the product in the container, since this recipe includes retinol, I don't want any product going to waste.

benefits and purpose of ingredients;

  • glycerin - hydrates and locks in moisture

  • montanov 65MB - is a liquid crystal emulsifier that creates a lamellar or bilayered structure that mimics the lipid bilayers in our stratum corneum, which may help actives or lipids from our lotions penetrate our skin easier.

  • cetyl alcohol - fatty alcohol used as an emulsion stabilizer and opacifier, adding body and viscosity to creams and lotions, and improving texture and feel with its characteristic velvety texture. It imparts emollient properties to formulations due to its absorption and retention in the epidermis where it lubricates and softens the skin.

  • shea butter - serves as a great moisturizer.

  • almond oil - helps moisturize skin

  • natrasil - a natural, plant-based alternative to synthetic silicone. Delivers emollience and skin nourishing properties

  • retinol liposome - promotes skin renewal, reduces acne and boosts your skin’s collagen production. It also functions like an antioxidant to help address free-radical damage, which leads to visible signs of aging.

  • green tea extract - intended to act as a powerful antioxidant to protect hair and skin from environmental free radical damage, while also protecting hair and skin from UV radiation. May minimize the appearance of skin damage by helping to tone the epidermis and improve elasticity to decrease the appearance of sagging skin and fine lines.

  • vitamin E - reduces UV-induced free radical damage to the skin. It also protects cells against the effects of free radicals which are formed as by-products of the body’s metabolic processes.

  • liquid germall plus - preserves product
