My skin isn't the biggest fan of clay masks. Unfortunately clay masks are the only types of masks I sell. So I have been wanting to experiment with some hydrating masks with a creamy lotion like texture, because my skin loves lotion! ( I also want to make some gel textured masks, so I may do that next)

I first went into this mask just looking for soothing and moisturizing ingredients. My plan was to make a soothing facial mask. This is why I decided to use rose, aloe, chamomile, allantoin, and shea butter. But then I thought, "why not add in some anti aging ingredients too!" Because I'm sure you all know by now how much I love my anti aging ingredients. Now, to be completely honest, this mask isn't as "anti aging" as a product would be that includes a powerful ingredient like retinol, but I think retinol is way to expensive of an ingredient to use in wash off products. So that is why I stuck with more "cheaper" anti aging ingredients. The key anti aging, or should I say rejuvenating, ingredient in this product is the carrot resin. So if you don't have all the ingredients I used, I at least recommend the carrot resin, this stuff is amazing! & it makes the mask look like nacho cheese. :)
Now that I am looking back on this formula I think it would of been a good idea to add some vitamin E during the cool down phase. So if you make this mask, try adding vitamin E in. It's amazing stuff! Alright enough chit chat. Lets look at the formula.
Formula;
water phase
21% rose water - (substitute w/ a hydrosol or distilled water)
10% lavender water - (substitute w/ a hydrosol or distilled water)
10% chamomile water - (substitute w/ a hydrosol or distilled water)
7% glycerin - (substitute w/ 1,3 propanedial)
2% dl panthenol
2% niacinamide
2% allantoin
oil phase
10% almond oil - (substitute w/ a different carrier oil of choice)
8% ritamulse scg (substitute w/ 4% cetyl and 4% emulsifying wax nf)
7% shea butter - (substitute w/ a different butter of choice or replace with carrier oil)
cool down phase
4% leucidal sf complete - (substitute w/ liquid germall plus, optiphen plus, optiphen, geogard ultra, or another water soluble broad spectrum preservative. make sure you are using recommended usage rate)
5% carrot resin
5% aloe vera extract - (substitute w/ aloe vera liquid in water phase)
5% dragon fruit extract - (substitute w/ a different extract with anti aging benefits)
2% oat protein - (substitute w/ a different protein, like rice protein, baobab protein, wheat protein, silk protein)
Directions;
measure and combine all ingredients in the water phase
in a separate beaker, measure and combine all the ingredients in the oil phase
weigh your water phase (including the beaker) and write down how much it weighs
cover both phases with aluminum foil and heat using a water bath
once both phases have reached 155 degrees fahrenheit for 20 minutes remove the water phase from the water bath and weigh it
replace any water that has evaporated (typically it's only less than a gram)
now remove the oil phase from the water bath and immediately pour the water phase into the oil phase, not the other way around!
mix immediately with an immersion blender
as it cools come, back periodically and give it a mix
once the formulation has returned to room temperature add the cool down ingredients
mix the formula by hand one last time to make sure all ingredients are incorporated evenly and then package in a jar
Benefits of each ingredient;
rose water - great for dry and mature skin types, gives your product a lovely rose scent and is a great ingredient for soothing the skin.
chamomile extract - has anti-inflammatory properties and helps soothe skin from irritation
lavender water - great for balancing dry or oily skin types. serves as a lovely fragrance in products and is a great ingredient to help soothe the skin.
vegetable glycerin - hydrates and locks in moisture
dl panthenol - has deep penetrating characteristics which provide excellent humectant benefits for restoring and maintaining natural skin moisture.
niacinamide - very effective skin-restoring ingredient that offers multiple benefits for aging skin. Among these benefits is the ability to visibly improve the appearance of enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, fine lines, dullness, and helps improve the overall appearance of the skin.
allantoin - has moisturizing, soothing, anti-irritating properties and stimulates healthy, normal tissue formation
almond oil - serves as a great moisturizer.
ritamulse scg - all in one emulsifier. used to blend oil and water together and also thicken product to create a lotion consistency. is an ecocert emulsifier approved for organic formulations.
shea butter - serves as a great moisturizer.
leucidal sf complete - preserve's product
carrot resin - rich in beta-carotene as well as vitamins B, C, D and E and is most useful as a skin rejuvenator and extremely effective for dry and aging skin. Known to improve the complexion of the skin, while toning the skin and increasing elasticity and firmness. Carrot seed oil also assists in removing toxin and water build up in the skin giving it a fresher more firmer appearance.
aloe vera extract - adds moisture, helps acne and wrinkles
dragon fruit extract - has vitamin c, full of antioxidants, anti aging, firming, wound healing, soothing and moisturizing
oat protein - imparts a soft, cushiony feel on the skin, drying to a velvety smoothness on the skin. oat protein retains significantly more moisture at all humidities, gaining up to 50% more moisture at relative low humidity when added moisture is most needed.
