How to Make Exfoliating Rose & Lavender Face Wash

Yes, you read the title right, this is another face wash recipe. I know I do a lot of these, but face washes are my favorite product to formulate! ALSO, this one is completely different than all the other face washes I have made because it is an exfoliating face wash. It's texture is pretty similar to the last face wash I made, the Strawberry Lemonade Face Wash. The key ingredient in this face wash are the jojoba pearls. I don't know of anything else you could use instead of jojoba pearls so there are no substitutions for it.

You can't use sugar or salt because these ingredients dissolve in water. So be sure you aren't using sugar or salt in products that contain water. Your product may seem okay at first, but once it sits for a bit the salt/sugar will dissolve. Also keep in mind that you should not over exfoliate. You only want to exfoliate about once or twice a week. I also want to mention that you don't have to worry about shaking up this face wash, the jojoba pearls will not settle to the bottom. They stay evenly distributed in the face wash.

Formula;

phase A

sepimax zen phase

  • 2% sepimax zen - (substitute w/ siligel, xanthan gum, or crothix) Please keep in mind your face wash will NOT have the same consistency if you don't use sepimax zen. Also if you choose to use any of the substitutions you may need to add it during a different phase. For example; siligel and xanthan gum should be added while the formulation is still hot and mixed with an immersion blender. Crothix should be added when the formulation has completely cooled.

phase B

Directions;

  • combine all ingredients in phase A and mix them together.

  • next is the sepimax zen phase. sprinkle the sepimax zen powder on top of your formulation and DO NOT MIX!!!

  • cover your formulation and let it sit for at least 8 hours. (I let mine sit over night)

  • after 8 hours you will notice the formulation looks chunky and the oil has separated to the top, that's fine, just give it a good mix!

  • now add in your surfactant phase and gently mix

  • cover up your formulation and let it sit over night, again.

  • then the next day you will notice the formulation has completely hydrated and all the ingredients are nicely combined and the formulation has become a jelly/milky consistency with not chunks.

  • lastly add in the jojoba pearls at whatever percentage you want. I used it at 7% I wish I would have used it at a higher percentage, so I recommend trying 10 - 15%

  • mix in the jojoba pearls and pour your product in your bottle. & you are done!

Benefits of each ingredient;

  • rose water - great for dry and mature skin types, gives your product a lovely rose scent and is a great ingredient for soothing the skin.

  • lavender water - great for balancing dry or oily skin types. serves as a lovely fragrance in products and is a great ingredient to help soothe the skin.

  • jojoba oil - helps moisturize the skin

  • 1,3 propanedial - moisturizes the skin and helps alleviate the greasiness some may find that glycerin causes

  • vegetable glycerin - hydrates and locks in moisture

  • hydrolyzed rice protein - increase’s moisture retention creates a more hydrated and elastic surface. an effective anti-irritant and leaves a smooth, dry feel on the skin.

  • sepimax zen - thickener and it produces products with an elegant skin feel and velvety touch

  • liquid germall plus - preserve's product

  • foaming apple - is an anionic surfactant derived from amino acids obtained from apple juice. will help gently cleanse the skin.

  • coco glucoside - acts as our emulsifier and is a natural, non-ionic, surfactant very similar to decly glucoside. it's ultra mild, and one of the most gentle of the cleansing agents, making it ideal for all foaming and cleansing products, especially those designed for fragile or sensitive skin.

  • jojoba pearls - serves as a natural exfoliant made from jojoba oil.

Exact formula I used; (makes 2 ounces)

phase A

sepimax zen phase
