Foaming Rose Face Wash

A couple years ago I posted a video of a Foaming Rose face wash. Since then I have learned SO MUCH MORE about formulating. I went through a lot of my older videos and deleted the ones with formulations that were either inaccurate or ones I just wasn't proud of. My Foaming Rose Face Wash was one of those videos I deleted. So I decided to make a new updated Foaming Rose Face Wash.

I'm typically not a big fan of foaming cleansers. I find them to suit oily skin types much more. I personally prefer a nice creamy face wash like the ones I make with xanthan gum and siligel, but it's fun to mix things up every once in a while, plus I know there are people out there who do like foaming cleansers.

Since I do have dry skin I wanted to make this face wash suited for more normal to dry skin types. I did this by only using a small amount of a cleansing surfactant and by using a more gentle/mild surfactant. The surfactant I decided to go with is Rich & Balanced Surfactant blend. This is a pre mixed surfactant blend that is a combination of Coco Glucoside, Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, and a moisturizing ingredient called Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate.

I did a video review over rich & balanced surfactant blend a while back so if you haven't watched it, you should. In short, this surfactant blend STINKS! But it feels great on my skin and has a very gentle and soft lather. Since I bought it, I have to use it up. So I figured using it in this foaming face wash would be perfect. If you are interested in this surfactant blend I would try Rich & Balanced Apple Surfactant Blend instead. I haven't personally tried it, but I bet this one doesn't stink since it isn't made with Sodium Cocoyl Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, and I think that may be the source of the awful scent. Not 100% sure though.

So back to the foaming face wash. I also wanted to add lots of humectants to this cleanser to help add moisture to the skin. So I used some glycerin, 1,3 propanedial, & dl panthenol. So lets take a look at the completed formula;

Formula;

Directions;

  • Start by combining the distilled water, rose water, & dl panthenol and mix until the dl panthenol has dissolved.

  • then you can combine the rest of your ingredients in any order.

  • If you decide to use a carrier oil mix the oil with the surfactant blend first before pour into your formulation.

  • mix everything together one last time and pour into your foaming pump bottle

note: The rich & balanced surfactant blend doesn't do a good job emulsifying oils so this is why I didn't add any oils. If you are looking for a good non ionic surfactant to emulsify oils try coco glucoside or decyl glucoside. I personally like pairing coco glucoside with foaming apple.

Benefits of each ingredient

  • rose water - great for dry and mature skin types, gives your product a lovely rose scent and is a great ingredient for soothing the skin.

  • dl panthenol - has deep penetrating characteristics which provide excellent humectant benefits for restoring and maintaining natural skin moisture.

  • rich & balanced surfactant blend - a special combination of the natural surfactants that deliver gentle cleansing and soft, luxurious, foam.

  • glycerin - hydrates and locks in moisture

  • 1,3 propanedial - moisturizes the skin and helps alleviate the greasiness some may find that glycerin causes

  • coconut water - a natural source of cytokinins. Cytokinis has been known to have an anti-aging effect on human tissues and cells.

  • wheat protein - its anti-irritant and protective properties gives skin a smoother, softer feel. Its film forming benefits help maintain an optimum moisture balance in the skin

  • mushroom extract - has anti-aging benefits, helps firm the skin, & increase cell turnover

  • liquid germall plus - helps preserve product

Exact formula I used; (makes 280 grams)
