DIY Valentines Bath Bombs - Mini Hearts

Updated: May 13, 2022

Formula;

Directions;

  • begin by mix together the baking soda, citric acid, corn starch and fragrance.

  • next slowly add in your carrier oil. I did about 2 grams at a time and then mixed.

  • once your mixture can pack together like wet sand it is ready. (you may need to add in more carrier oil or less carrier oil depending on how dry your environment it)

  • sprinkle some pink himalayan salt on the bottom of your heart molds and then pack your molds with the mixture. You can add some himalayan salt on top if you would like as well.

  • let sit over night and the next day you can pop them out of their molds.

Note; you can color your bath bombs with mica powder. If you do, I recommend using about 2% polysorbate 80(remove 2% from the oil phase). Remember the percentages of your liquid ingredients may need adjusted depending on the humidity level of your environment. Using polysorbate 80 will allow the color to be evenly dispersed in the bath tub. Also, since these bath bombs contain oil, and oil and water don't mix, the oil will just settle on the top of your bath unless you add in some polysorbate 80.

Substitutions;

  • baking soda - can't substitute

  • citric acid - can't substitute

  • corn starch - I've seen recipes without corn starch, but I've never tired it. You could probably use clay, arrowroot powder, coconut milk powder, etc. You can definitely incorporate other powdered ingredients here and even some epsom salt. Have fun experimenting! adding in some dried herbs is always fun too!

  • carrier oil - I've used rubbing alcohol. You can incorporate it using a spray bottle. The rubbing alcohol will dissolve so you don't have to worry about any being left over. I've also seen recipes using water in this phase, but I find it a little difficult since it does activate the bombs, but if you do, incorporate it with a spray bottle. I've seen some recipes using witch hazel. Never tired it, but give it a shot and let me know. Witch hazel can also activate the bombs so incorporate with a spray bottle.
