I know just a couple weeks ago I said that Vanilla Body Gel was my favorite body moisturizer ever, well I guess I lied, because this is my favorite body moisturizer ever! This is such a thick lotion and I always thought I hated thick lotions. As long as you make them right, they are amazing! This body cream is super thick, but it's not heavy on the skin. It doesn't leave a greasy residue, oiliness, a tacky texture, non of that! It rubs into the skin faster than any other lotion I've ever made too.
Formula;
water phase
oil phase
5% shea butter
cool down phase
2% honeyquat
Directions;
combine all the ingredients in the water phase and oil phase in two separate beakers
heat using a water bath until varisoft EQ 65 has complete melted. (varisoft is very finicky and takes forever to melt. You might need to give the oil phase a mix or two to get it to melt completely)
pour the water phase into the oil phase while the oil phase is still sitting over heat
immediately mix with an overhead mixer or immersion blender
continuously mix until it has cooled to somewhere between 90 - 85 degrees f
add in the cool down phase and mix one last time
pour into your container and you are done!
PH adjusting; natural ph fell at 4.51 (I forgot to mention this in the video)
Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient
glycerin - humectant that draws moisture to the skin
allantoin - has moisturizing, soothing, anti-irritating properties and stimulates healthy, normal tissue formation
varisoft EQ 65 - Emulsifier for lotions, creams, and body butters in which you want a green, biodegradable product with a less greasy and smooth skin feel with low tackiness. It is a green, readily biodegradable cationic or positively charged ester quat derived from stearic acid and combined with cetearyl alcohol to act as a thickener and conditioning agent for emulsions and hair care products. Lotions made with varisoft EQ 65 are rich and creamy with the distinctive dry, powdery skin feel of cationic emulsifiers.
cetyl alcohol - is a thickener that brings slip and glide to our products. It gives a creamy feeling to the product, and it’s a great emollient.
macadamia nut oil - is a lightweight oil, that is well absorbed without feeling greasy. Very moisturizing, regenerating and softening on the skin and has anti inflammatory properties.
luxglide N350 - natural alternative to dimethicone that adds slip and glide to lotion
shea butter - lovely moisturizer that also thickens lotion
honeyquat - cationic surfactant that conditions the skin
liquid germall plus - preservative
Substitutions;
(may need to change percentages of the substitutions. substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity and over all feel and look of end product)
glycerin - propylene glycol,1,3 propanedial, sodium lactate liquid or another humectant of choice.
allantoin - no sub, but you can leave out
distilled water - hydrosol, essence water, floral water aloe vera liquid, etc.
