Bubble Bath (sulfate free)

Updated: May 13, 2022

Formula;

Directions;

  • combine all ingredients in order mixing in between each one

  • pour into bottle and done

PH adjusting; natural ph fell at 5.9

Benefits/Purpose of each ingredient

  • poly suga mulse D9 - solubilizer for fragrance/essential oil

  • fragrance/essential oil - adds fragrance to bubble bath

  • AOS 40 - anionic surfactant. helps create bubbles for bubble bath

  • cocamidopropyl betaine - amphoteric surfactant, helps improve the foam performance

  • DLS - anionic surfactant. helps create bubbles for bubble bath

  • liquid germall plus - preservative.

  • crothix - thickener to help increase viscosity.

Substitutions;

(may need to change percentages of the substitutions. substituting ingredients will change the final feel, viscosity and over all feel and look of end product)

  • poly suga mulse D9 - poly suga mulse D6, sunflower solubilizer, polysorbate 20, polysorbate 80

  • fragrance oil/essential oil - you can leave out

  • AOS 40 - DLS or a different anionic surfactant that creates a good lather. Maybe try Disodium Lauroyl Glutamate or plantapon LGC sorb which is a combination of Sodium Lauryl Glucose Carboxylate and Lauryl Glucoside. An anionic and non ionic surfactant (I personally can't think of any other anionic surfactants that are sulfate free that bubble up as well as AOS 40. Foaming apple, foaming oats, and foaming soy are other sulfate free anionic surfactants, but I've tried foaming apple and foaming soy in bubble baths and they don't show as good of results as AOS 40 or DLS do. You can definitely use them, they just won't create as big of bubbles)

  • cocamidopropyl betaine - disodium cocoamphodiacetate

  • DLS - AOS 40

  • liquid germall plus - euxyl PE 9010, optiphen plus, etc. any water soluble broad spectrum preservative that works in this formula

  • crothix - xanthan gum or leave out

Note; You don't need 3 different surfactants. You can use just 60% AOS 40 and still get a good lather. Or 40% AOS and 20% cocamidopropyl betaine. Or do experimenting with other surfactants to see what you like as a bubble bath. This is just one example recipe. There are many other ways to make a bubble bath.
